AKA "the Protestant work ethic." How come no-one every questions this? Society has been pulled apart and re-constructed - everything has been called into question since the 60s...but no-one ever decries the work ethic. By the way, having to work is one of the original "curses" mentioned in the book of Genesis.
The true currency is TIME - we only have a finite amount of time on this planet, yet we swap our time for bits of paper printed by the govt., or numbers on a screen which function as a currency...or whatever...

that's all very philosophical but the reality is, if people didn't live by money and time restraints they'd be sleeping on park benches. Times have changed over the last 3400 years.

I don't understand the gist of the OP. If nobody 'went to work' the human species would cease to exist. As would any other species that was not prepared to apply the necessary effort that is required for survival.
Time is a restriction which defines the proportion of one's existence that can be spent defying the work ethic. |

They used to believe with increased automation there would be lots of increased leisure time but it's not worked that way, and I'm not sure how it COULD work? In some ways I'm glad I (probably!) won't be here in 100 years time as automation creeps into more and more jobs. Once you've got robots making robots to make robots to do everything else, what is everyone going to DO?

mac that reminds me of a joke Billy McNeil told about the 9-3 thrashing Scotland received from the English in the early 60s. For the first time an orange ball was used and big Billy said that the Rangers players refused to kick it and Frank Haffey (Celtics goalie) refused to handle it. |
