Velasquez - tbf, it was 1967. There must have been a lot of teams with mostly local players back then.
Becoming European Champions is another matter. That was a tremendous achievement.

Mind you, I have a feeling Celtic were never called Glasgow Celtic, just Celtic, so Ken Masters will have to keep on searching, like the bloke who was looking for the Hulk...or a yeti...or sasquatch.

I dunno, Nick - Dutch teams had Belgians and Yugoslavians...Italian sides had Germans and Spaniards and South Americans...Spanish teams always seemed to be world select teams...and English teams had mixed Brits.

Only £53 this Saturday to sit in line with the corner flag. Gonna go to work instead...
The whole game has changed. Great for the tv viewer but those who go ( I do occasionally) are sacrificial lambs.
Makes me laugh when peeps complain about the cost of cinema tickets. I think the flix is incredible value!! If it's a shoite film you complain about the film not the price. If it's a good film you're laughing! Go to a good football match and you're 'well that was fun but geez I feel poor'.

Crystal Palace ever since the Malcolm Allison days and was a regular goer but football bores me in the main now and supporting Palace is not exactly an easy ride. Having said that I always go to Newcastle for their away game at St. Jame's Park as I have lot of mates from there and go on an almighty bender for a few days.

telly has undoubtedly changed it - a couple of weeks ago I couldn't make it to the man city game so I signed up for bt sport - one off payment of £13.50 set up fee, then £15.00/month. Cancelled within 7 day cooling off period, job done for less than half the price of the train ticket to waterloo

Palace. I have a season ticket and go to most aways. Man Utd on Saturday. On the beers at 9.30. It's the only reason I go! It will probably be the last season I do it though.

I love to bet & trade football but it'd bore me senseless to go & actually go & watch a match nowadays .. beers @ 9.30 no thanks !
I'll enjoy the Everton match with a beer in a bit

Jimmy Hill's Highfield Road Sky Blues - Good times. Ditched going to the footy years ago, and jumped the train to darts opens/money tournaments instead on a saturday. Guaranteed good day out and any money won was a bonus.

I'm not a season ticket holder but I go to most games, even if it is just to get rat arsed in the pub afterwards. 2 - 0 up yesterday against Glenavon and we lost 4-2. The football may not be the best but the games are exiting. Official attendance was 991 yesterday, the glory days when we had 20,000 at a game are 40 years in the past :( Money has ruined the game, the rich get richer while the rest of us suffer.
We also get a trip to Europe most years, even if it is preliminary rounds of Europa or Champions League. As we don't usually win, we can make a decent trip of it and go to places you'd never consider. I've been to some top cities but also some obscure villages. Love it when we qualify.

i was at the cup final when you lot turned us over..but you had a great banner at the match, you were tauting the blues it said..
we played for our history ..you paid for yours....thought it summed the IL and IFA up.... ONE LOVE U REDS....

I've been in your social club a few times and shared a pint with your fans, we're all decent fans where it matters. When your next at the Oval, come into the club (front gate) with your mates with your colours on. I promise you will be treated well and are more than welcome.
IL is now down to the hard core. When I attended a meeting when the Glens first announced their ground move, our average attendance was 2,300 (Linfield 2,700). This came from the Glentoran chairman at the time. I know our future has been uncertain but our average gate would be closer to 1,000 nowadays and the older diehards like my mates and myself are dying off, it's hard to attract new fans.
I know your support has increased but it's nothing to what I seen in the 70's and 80's.
It annoys me more that people go week in, week out to watch Man U, Liverpool, Rangers and Celtic even though we have a decent product on our doorstep. As I said, money dictates football nowadays and the grassroots suffer. Somewhere down the line it will all collapse as Rangers recently proved.

Which is the same team who won all 21 home matches in the 1929-30 season but STILL didnt get promotion
Which is the same team who were knocked out by Liverpool in the QF of the FA cup in the round prior to Hillsborough
Which is the same who had a penalty to win promotion in the 4th minute of 4 added on minutes of injury time in the last game of the 2012/2013 regular season, that we let a 19 year old loanee from our arch rivals take. Unsuccessfully.
Which is the same team whose fans (myself included) looked on in absolute horror as the other team then ran up the other end and scored 15 seconds later.
Which is the same team currently 6th in the Championship, leaving us all in a state of utter bewilderment and joy!
Welcome to the world of Brentford FC

My team is Brechin City of which I have supported for 47 years although I am not Scottish and actually live in Leeds I make sure I see them play four or five times a season. My honour to supporting them was from an article I read in the 1967 topical times football annual about there famous hedge which forms one side of the Glebe Road ground since many friends and there sons and daughters have followed my affliction and I would say roughly that at least a hundred or so folk in the Leeds area look out for Brechins score.

You hedging yer bets, Huggy? I only became aware of this when Newco Rangers played Brechin last season or whatever...didn't the ball get stuck in the hedge?

Topical Times FFs...Charles Buchan football annual...you'd think, since it was the 1967 annual you would have become a Celtic fan - at least it shows you're no glory hunter.

One of east London's finest establishments once had a soccerball team, with one particular player who only appeared now and again as a centre-half. His shoulder length hair flying in the wind, he never scored a single goal, but he got the better of the Slaters Arms 'bully boy' centre-half more than once.
In the late 60s and early 70s days there were long waiting lists to gain membership to the club. The quickest way in was to sign up for the football team, you were seconded by another player, usually the captain, and you were 'in' immediately.
This was a report by a visitor to the club in 2007.
Judging by other swear words included in it, I think some of the words about the 'black man' in Barking have been edited.

The unbeaten runaway leaders for me. Not a STH but attend regularly. Difficult to get tickets these days due to high demand. Such is life as a Bristol City fan (once every hundred years or so)

There's a clue in my username. STH for many years - as sick as anyone about the way the game has gone with all the money etc, but still love going to the games and wake up like a kid at Christmas on matchday mornings.
BTW Ovalman, any more gems you could send our way would be greatly appreciated

Don't really support any English team but I like Leeds, Huddersfield, Everton, Derby Co. - would like to see those teams in the EPL...want Stoke to stay there...used to like Man, City but not bothered now...guy on the radio the other day compared them to the Trotters after they hit the jackpot - it was never the same.

The close control is there, as is the familiar turning the defenders one way then the other and of course the finish is something SGL could do for fun, but with that turn of pace on the halfway line, I refuse to believe it's him.
