the bbc invited six viewers along to critique their latest offerings. All agreed that the BBC fees were very reasonable. Self preservation society? make it a pay to watch service. I'm tired of being stung for a lagging copycat service. I can see better on the other freeview stations. they are not giving us steak anymore it's a cheap pastie with no meat in it.

Around 40p a day is cheap enough for most people not to care. It is not a significant amount of money and for most will be less than they pay for their phone, let alone Sky.

I agree......................................with the six viewers.

40p a day?

The total income from licence fees was £3.7261 billion in 2013–14[5] of which 607.8 million or 16.3% was provided by the Government through concessions for those over the age of 75.
Thus, the licence fee made up the bulk of the BBC's total income of £5.066 billion in 2013–2014.[5]
Wiki.

£5.066 billion.
That's an awful lot of dosh for the services they provide.

Where does it all go?
Report Dr Crippen • November 5, 2014 3:32 PM GMT
They spend the vast majority of it on themselves as far as I can see.
Report naydam • November 5, 2014 3:49 PM GMT
High quality programmes are probably quite expensive to produce or buy. Plus they have to spend lots in chasing up those who don't wish to pay the licence fee. That should really be done by the tax man.
Report Ramruma • November 5, 2014 3:54 PM GMT
@Dr Crippen -- maybe they do spend billions on themselves but as it costs the man on the Clapham omnibus 40p a day, I doubt he feels very strongly about it unless he has been riled up by a newspaper attached to a rival broadcaster eg Sun, Times, Express, Star.

£5 billion is less than Sky, to put it in some sort of perspective.
Report zorrostrikes • November 5, 2014 5:02 PM GMT
only 40p a day. only 60p a day electricity. only 60p a day gas. all adds up leaving you with fresh air in pockets.
Report Dr Crippen • November 5, 2014 5:13 PM GMT
Saying that it only costs us 40 a day is not the point.

If the BBC could operate on a more realistic budget, perhaps the government could find a few billion extra for the NHS?

They could certainly do with it.

If that's the case, then who do you reckon has riled you up to defend the BBC?

I'm not defending the BBC. I'm saying that at 40p a day, most people will take the view that it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
Report Dr Crippen • November 5, 2014 6:25 PM GMT
Of course forty pence a day is a bargain considering what we get for it.

I'm just saying that there are more worthy causes to fund than the personal fortunes of BBC presenters and executives.

Over 3000 people A WEEK are prosecuted for not having a TV licence Crazy

the only thing I have watched on bbc this year is peaky blinders, so imo its rather expensive
Report scandanavian_haven • November 5, 2014 6:56 PM GMT
you'd still have to pay for a tv license even if the bbc didn't exist or they scrapped their license and had adverts, usually pay off mine for the year, forgot to pay it off a month ago and now they've scheduled a visit for november 13th
