I see that this is a very old series but, for whatever reason, I only watched for the first time last week.
I know it is staged, and for entertainment, but it is totally ridiculous.
They drive hundreds of miles to buy something and then do what must be weeks of work, in some cases, and then give the things away.
As an e-type owner in the seventies I was interested in the 2+2 V 12 just now.
He goes 200 miles to buy it and it will gobble the best part of £80 in fuel to bring it back.
He paid £13.25k and talks about it being worth £20k when renovated.
Then they spend thousands on it, including a stainless steel exhaust system, when a standard one would suffice.
He has the wheels renovated at a cost of £3.00 per spoke, of which there are about 50, and plus polishing the rims and hub etc.
The final cost for the wheels he says was £200.00 but the truth is it would have been £150 plus per wheel!
Then having spent more than he thought, he advertises it for £19k, being £1k lees than his original speculative price, and has nowhere to go but downwards.
He lets the fekking thing go for £18.25k, which has to be a loss, and that isn't allowing either of them a wage. Ok I know it's all pretend and the TV company pay for it,
but it is, otherwise, a complete farce!

The mechanic who does all the work, doesn't get a bean for his labour, would cost you about £30 an hour. Enjoy the program though.

I don't drive and have,I believe watched every episode of wheeler dealers,I'd stick to top gear if I was you. |

Its Paul I feel sorry for, in the wings until Ed the mechanic needs
him for a 2 man job. Ed will often advise how much what he is doing would cost at a garage. |

Doing all that they did to the Range Rover, and making an alleged £400.00 is ridiculous.
They always have two potential buyers, but at least one was never going to buy it and, who knows, maybe the one who does buy is also just also just part of the pretense! If not they get a bargain every time! It was however refreshing to see them holding out for a decent price, for the "Frog Eye", which I wouldn't mind as a "toy" on my drive. The undoubted star, in my eyes though, is Ed the mechanic. What a knowledgeable guy is he? It doesn't matter what make or model, he always knows his way around it. Doing it all on camera makes it even more impressive! |
