Friend of mine's daughter has been working for the last two years in Canada as
healthcare assistant. Had a boyfriend over there, etc. Anyway it's all come to an
end so she's come back to dear, old England. Been back about two weeks and has
applied for at least seven jobs (that I know of) and she's a genuine trier (a couple of
interviews lined up, etc). Is she entitled to any kind of benefit? She's staying with her
mum (who is on a low wage herself) at the moment and has been told at the DSS (or
whatever it is they call it now) that she can't claim anything at all for three months
because she's been out of the country.
Anyone know if this is correct, ta?

Illegal migrants see the UK as a "soft touch" and its benefits system acts as a "magnet" to them, the mayor of the French city of Calais has told MPs.
Natacha Bouchart added that the fences placed around UK border controls set up in the city "make everybody laugh".
"These people are ready and prepared to die to come to England," she told the Home Affairs Committee.
Calais has struggled in recent months with increasing numbers of migrants arriving and trying to get to the UK.
Prime Minister David Cameron has urged "action right across the board" and "full-hearted cooperation between the British and French authorities to make sure we can stop people getting on to trains, getting on to container lorries or other vehicles and coming across the Channel".

my daughter was holding down 3 jobs in this country and not getting anywhere rent low pay high cost of living etc , she and her boyfriend chucked their jobs in and went to Australia 3 weeks ago she has got a job earning 400 dollars a week and her boyfriend earns 600dollar a week they have a rented flat a few mins from bondi beach at 700 dollars a month she says its fantastic out there ! maybe your daughter could give aus a try raspbery

If the lass had kept paying NI contributions when non-resident then she could claim benefits on return afaik.
If not contributing and absent from UK for 12 months+, then you start again on return and wait 3 months to claim off other taxpayers.

Perhaps her mother can claim for her as a dependent., Anybody know?
She can apply for hardship money, provided she has no cash in the bank.
