A 90-year-old man who stepped into to save his wife from a dog attack in West Lothian has died five weeks after the incident.
Andrew Russell was bitten by an American bulldog while helping his wife, Dorothy, who had been knocked to the ground by the animal.
The attack happened in West Calder's Main Street on 20 September.
Mr Russell died at St John's Hospital on Friday. Police Scotland will send a report to the procurator fiscal.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in West Lothian are carrying out inquiries following the death of a 90-year-old man at St John's Hospital on 24 October.

I don't blame the dog but who needs an American ****g Bulldog ? It's a weapon not a pet.Its a bit like saying 'guns don't kill people,people do'.

So is this yet another useless law that is not enforced?
There must surely be a stiff custodial sentence of anyone who flouts the law on dangerous dogs! |

I don't blame the dog but who needs an American ****g Bulldog ? It's a weapon not a pet.Its a bit like saying 'guns don't kill people,people do'. An owner picks their dog, a dog does not pick its owner, so this is down to its owner. I agree does not seem very suitable Dogs also require to be properly looked after and cared for, their behaviour often reflects the way they have been treated/ |

I would agree with Aunty Post..owners need to be made much more accountable for their dogs actions
