A long-fetch southerly from the Azores bringing sunshine and warmth to the south-east of England is not global warming. The word global is important.

Cold, grey and not a break in the cloud all day here in Somerset yesterday.

Prestatyn in Wales recorded 21.7C on 4 Nov. 1946. That UK winter turned out to be one of the most severe ever in terms of cold and flooding.

Global warming? Climate change? Extreme weather? B0llocks. We live in a time of extraordinarily benign and moderated weather compared with 70 years ago.

Do you know how temps are calculated for assessing annual warmth? The answer is daily max + daily min divided by 2. Max temps haven't altered one bit since records began, but through the 1980s and 1990s min temps rose. Nights got warmer, which is, of course, a good thing.

Why did they get warmer? Because more and more land is built on. Asphalt and buildings store heat during the day and release it at night. If climate "scientists" or ecologists or greenists ever left their towns or travelled by bike or on foot, they'd recognize the effect the moment they turn from a country lane onto a residential road.

But they don't. So they sit in their offices and calculate an average and, as every religion demands, look for a catastrophe and for a way to burden humanity with sin and guilt.

When the idea of blaming carbon dioxide was proposed, Mrs Thatcher jumped at it as the perfect weapon with which to attack the miners. Here was an apparent moral imperative for closing the mines. She set up the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia to promote the idea. The oil companies joined in enthusiastically with funding, since carbon dioxide emissions are greater from coal than from oil or gas, and this was a way to shut down oil's biggest competitor.

Greenpeace and Friends Of The Earth and the RSPB and so on are just useful helpers for the oil companies' agenda (and in so doing deny the poorest of humanity access to sanitation, healthcare, economic opportunity and all the other benefits of cheap energy which we rich westerners take for granted).

What is the relationship between carbon dioxide and temperatures? It turns out, none whatsoever. For the last 18 years carbon dioxide concentrations have risen and risen, from 0.036% of the atmosphere 18 years ago to 0.040% of the atmosphere today. And in those 18 years there has been no rise in global temps whatsoever. They rose from 1997 to 1998, then they plummeted and have flatlined ever since.

Which makes sense. With 2/3 of the planet's surface covered by water, it's the water cycle which determines weather and hence temperatures. In the tropics extra heat causes water to evaporate. which condenses into early clouds to block sunlight. If there's less heat, then clouds form later and more sunlight is allowed to arrive. If CO2 has a greenhouse effect, then the extra heat in the atmosphere simply triggers a greater and earlier volume of cloud formation.

Weather and temps over the rest of the planet are determined by the way heat rises in the tropics and is transported to the poles, where, as noted in the post above, ice formation fluctuates and causes colder weather elsewhere as a response to to any extra heat.

Runaway or catastrophic warming is simply impossible on a planet with water, and the great news is that observations have confirmed this.

21.1C was recorded on in several locations in Essex and Suffolk back on 5 November 1938!

it was pretty warm this time of year around 2006 time just coming into Nov , 22- 24c i recall - expect it to reach 20c on Nov 1st depending on where you are .

Latest sunbathing for me  was Nov - December always requires a shirt on atleast  if sitting in the garden - 15c absolute max then

I recall a 19c in January ,the coldest month  for the south east

that was 1990 btw
