Must have seen 8 world cups over the years and never seen a black player play for the Argie national team.
Whereas their near neighbours Brazil are mostly all of Afro descent. Very strange imo.

They didn't have a slave trade like Brazil did.I spent months in Argentina, didn't see a single black person.Most of Southern Brazil doesn't have many blacks either.In the Americas you only find significant black populations in Colombia,Brazil,Venezuela, parts of Ecuador and some countries in Central América.
I'm in México now, another country with no black people. Argentina has indigenous people but mostly in the North.Buenos Aires looks like a European and most people are white. Nice city but very stuck up people. They had huge migration from Italy hence a lot of their players have names ending in o. To this day Argentine Spanish has a strong Italian sounding inflection. |

Brazil was the last country in the world to abolish slavery in 1888. Bahia was the largest slave port in the world i think. Most of the blacks in Brazil are in the North of the country which is very poor. Sao Paulo has some, but they are mostly migrants from the North.Brazil is pretty much half white,a lot mixed and the rest black but i guess because blacks tend to excel at sport you would get the idea that it's majority black. Ecuador are pretty good and have a lot of black players but they form only a tiny percentage of their overall population.The rest are indigenous like in Peru. |

One last thing.The reason Argentina didn't have a slave trade was not for moral reasons...
Argentines are some of the most racist people on the planet, they refer to Braziians as monkeys and are basically hated in every other Latin American country for their arrogance. Northern Brazil had and still has a load of sugar cane, so they brought slave labour to cultivate it. Argentina has none, or very little of that. |

While we are on the topic of Latin America.
Every hear of the war that little Paraguay fought against Brazil,Argentina and Uruguay all at once!!! They lost 2/3 of their male population.They are an extremely proud people, even now everyone in Paraguay speaks two languages Guarani and Spanish.The only Latin American country where that happens. Paraguayan women are gorgeous, they say because there were so few men left that they only had children with the most beautiful women and it greatly improved the gene pool. Argentina did have a substantial black population in the 19th century , around 8% IIRC
Thye had slavery , though not on the scale of countries nearer the equator , due to the reasons given above . If anyone's ever seen the South Park movie , where the US is at war with Canada and they form a special division for hopeless missions , made up entirely of blacks..... Well Argentina did that for real in their wars with neighbouring countries . That did reduce the % of black people .The rest was down to a small minority being absorbed by the larger white/indigenous population through intermarriage over several generations . A black person looking around for a husband or wife would no have seen many black people to choose , and so they married outside their race ,as did their children .... and so their grt grandchildren would not have been black at all. Similar thing happened in the UK : 1800 you have 10s of thousands of black people in Britain , 1900 : virtually 0 , simply because the descendants of the blacks became more and more white through a few generations. |
