Bought a whole fresh Pineapple yesterday, only £1, probably get six thick slices from. Tastes delicious and very juicy. And for only just more than a poxy bar of chocolate.

I'm a pineapple lover, usually a quarter a day.

I had some pineapple when I was a young kid.  It was sour and made my tongue tingle.  For about 20 years I assumed I didn't like pineapple.  It never occured to me that I had simply happened upon a pineapple that was not at peak ripeness (though tbh I never had a reason to think about it).  It's now one of my favourite fruits and I feel somewhat disgruntled to have missed out on two decades worth of pineapple munching.

Pineapples (in the UK) used to be a sign of social status and great wealth.

lybertyne, the trick with pineapples is dont eat the spikey bit at the top.Thats what made your tongue tingle. And peel it first, thats also a help
Report Coachbuster October 24, 2014 6:38 PM BST
you should keep them stored upside down (apparently) for better tasting fruit

Thanks for the advice Hector.  Do you know anything about bananas?  I find they're very chewy and quite bitter tasting.  And don't get me started on Brazil nuts.  Nearly broke my teeth.

lybertyne,if peeling fruit isnt one of your strong points then prickly pears are a safe option

The stone pineapple is a sign of welcome and in the Islands fresh pineapple is used to tenderise meat.

Ever wonder who was the first guy to put pineapple on pizza? I bet he was gay. No straight guy is gonna say: "You know what this pizza could use? A pineapple ring." God bless him. It's good.
