grows to 2.2kg in 33-38 days. Horrifying to think what they feed them on to get them that size so quickly. And then people eat them!

Every year over 330 million rabbits are farmed for meat in the EU. Almost all are kept in barren cages. They cannot roam, run, hop, choose when to seek companionship and when to be alone. Many cannot even stand upright.

Kenny - what is your view on wild rabbit? The UK has very little major "farmed for meat" rabbit farms. You will agree with me that the wild population of rabbit can provide a healthy, virtually organic, source of low fat, easily digestible and tasty meat. How can we better harvest this crop to prevent intensively farmed rabbit?
While you consider the above, please consider this plea for the consumption of Grey Squirrel - All the above applies but there are even less UK Farms, and the Forestry benefits are huge. |

Not wishing to start a row here, but how can you farm rabbits if they are not in cages? If you left them in a field they would just burrow and fook off.

two rabbits escaping from the animal testing lab ,they get to the boundary fence and one says "fck this am going back " why says the other ....."am gasping on a cigarette " .

The only way to buy meat, if you have to, is from your local butcher who can tell you where the meat came from and how it had been reared.
Quite why anyone buys those cheap chickens is beyond me as they dont taste of anything at all. Pointless. |

It is quite easy to 'farm' rabbits without putting them in cages. Simply provide them with a rabbit-friendly environment in which to burrow and exist without predators. The, at regular intervals you can trap them in nets.
I believe that at Newborough Warren, Anglesey, they used to trap a million rabbits per year when rabbit was part of the common diet. It's just a load of sandy soil, easy to burrow into and not many predators about. The old Royal Ordnance factories had huge rabbit problems. Plenty of banked, grassy divides between the buildings to deflect explosive blasts (and burrow into!) and no intruders with dogs or guns to interrupt their rabbity activities!  It is usually accepted that this problem was 'solved' by introducing myxomatosis into these areas. A South American disease, I think. Anyway, it destroyed the rabbit population of the whole of Britain! It was a terrible disease to see! After that...nobody wanted to eat rabbit any more, despite assurances that humans couldn't catch 'myxo'.  |

blackbarn, I don't have any views on wild rabbit. I have one view and one view only. If it's cruel then I'm against it. Hope that's clear enough for you.

I don't trust pre-cut chicken pieces in things like pies , sandwiches any longer as you never know how long it's been lying around for in plastic tubs
 Only really like the southern fried chicken now (guess you could say the same about that but at least you get the best bits of it) or a full cooked chicken from asda  |

Stop having kids and the Chickens will benefit.
The well being of chickens is not on my list of priorities. They are bred for food, have a short life and don't suffer that much. Some of the "free range" stuff can be just as cruel, couped up indoors and knee deep. It is not something I worry about. There are net 160 people growing the population every minute. Each one of them eat 900 chickens in a lifetime (I googled both answers). Stop having kids and it will help solve your concerns Kenny. I think population is a far bigger problem for the planet than how to feed them. |

I don't care about chickens welfare TBH Kenny, I think there are many worse problems facing humanity and the planet. I'll gladly buy those 2 chickens for a fiver in Iceland, in fact I'll have one for tomorrows dinner.
I admire your aspirations but if people keep having kids then they'll have to be fed somehow. |

No Naydam only cook the southern fried stuff in the oven I only ever cook meat for a big meal it kinda seems a waste of time to me to actually 'cook a chicken'  |

Teach women how to cook and make a good meal for next to nothing. That's what my mother could do. As I said I never saw chicken as a kid, reidiculous that animals and chickens should suffer to feed us.

we always had chicken for sunday dinner as a kid which I never used to like until I was older , it was always far too dry for me , but we did then have chicken & salad cream sarnies for the rest of the week , which was an added bonus
