THE musician who played the most famous saxophone solo of all time — on the 1978 Gerry Rafferty hit Baker Street — has died aged 60.
Raphael Ravenscroft got £27 to record his part on the song, which sold four million copies.
But the cheque bounced and he never got a penny. His solicitor framed it.
Rafferty was still earning £80,000 a year royalties when he died in 2011.
Three-times married Raphael, of Exeter, Devon, said: “If I had received pots of money, I wouldn’t have known what to do. It might’ve destroyed me.”
The session man also worked with Pink Floyd, Abba, Marvin Gaye, Duffy and Daft Punk.
He released a solo album in 1979.
Raphael died on Sunday of a suspected heart attack at the Royal and Devon Hospital.

... and I would think Rafferty's £80,000 per year royalties, are quite underestimated,
unless he was done too. |
