Have agonised over this for too long, but finally decided to call the none emergency number a couple of weeks ago.

A woman who works in one of the shops parks her car on the pavement in the same place every time.
She is obstructing the dropped kerb meaning that people with push chairs, wheel chairs and mobility scooters have to go onto the road
or otherwise out of their way.

Worst still, for me, is that when pulling out of the adjoining car park, the view to the right is completely blocked, without edging out which is dangerous.

First guy says call back when it happens again. Brilliant because it happens every day when she is there.

Called several times just to be held on the line but finally got through on Friday. Brilliant as the lady I spoke to knows the village and exactly what I'm talking about.

So guess what, they obviously did sod all about it as she is there again.

What is stupid is there are bollards to define what is the footpath and what is the private parking.
There  is a good two metres to her left, where she could park without a problem.

So I called again and there is no reply.

I don't know why I bother except it's only a matter of time before there is a collision!

We all got letters from the police 2 years ago informing us that there were major issues re illegal parking on pavements. My neighbour's Mum,boyfriend, father and any other amount of idiots continually park on the pavement outside her house.
A law is only relevant if it is enforced, sadly for me and our other neighbours we have to put up with it because the police are busy doing other things.

If I see a car parked in my way on the pavement I just walk over the car.

Too many laws, not enough enforcement.

Slash her tyres. The police will be round to your house in no time.

A less extreme measure would be to spit on her door handle every time you pass. She will eventually get the message.

Put a note on her windscreen.

Say you are the user of a mobility scooter.  Explain at lengths the problems you encounter as a result of her parking.

If this does not work, shoot her in the face.

Leave a letter, typed in Braille, on her windscreen explaining that, due to her selfishness, you have broken 2 white canes on the wheels of her car. If you don't happen to have a Braille typewriter (!), write the letter and say that you dictated it to your friend, who happens to be deaf.

appeal to her community spirit - inform her very kindly not to park in such an inconsiderate manner .

otherwise sadly,  we'll have to shoot you in the face

Take picture of the car on the pavement.

Fix it to her windscreen with a note telling her that you are a mother with a child in a pushchair and her parking is making it dangerous for you to cross the road.
Tell her that you'll send the picture to the police if she continues to block the pavement.

I think it's better to speak to her first, she's probably that ignorant she doesn't realise it's a problem.

Then you can grass her up to the cops if she does it again.

Why not get there early and pinch her parking place?
But don't blame me if she phones the police.
Or puts her key down the side of your car for parking inconsiderately.

Ibrahimma...it is illegal to park on the pavement but here it beggars belief when, as I said,
she only has to park a few feet to the left and all will be fine.

As far as more mercenary tactics go, super glue on the door handle would be wonderful, except when she calls plod
I am the prime suspect.

I will call one more time tomorrow and vent my wrath (haven't done enough wrath venting lately).

Why should I have to suffer the possible animosity from the woman, even though I am in the right?

As for wasting police time, I thought that they are there to uphold the law!

We have "Community Officers" except I can't remember seeing one, and similarly are seen the occasional ones on bikes,
but why are they often in pairs? Isn't that wasting police time?

Aunty Post ,the knack with finding a Community Officer is locating what are known as their "tea stops",ie places they pop into briefly for a cup of tea while patrolling. In reality they spend all day in the tea stop resolutely avoiding any possibility of doing any work.I advise looking in the local library first cos thats where my local community officer is a fixture .Of course an appology may be due if she is in the library all day every day purely because she believes its  about to kick off at any second and she wants to be first on the scene.

Actually that gives me an idea.

I will ask the question in the village store or otherwise on the website.
May even be a mention in the monthly news letter which I chucked out just days ago.

Don't be such an old fusspot.  Have a word and if she doesn't cooperate, reconsider.

I dont think tea stops are normally advertised in the parish magazine, its a semi clandestine activity that the COs prefer to keep hushed up.
PS have you ever considered a role in community policing ? It sounds like you are made for it.

By:

When: 15 Oct 14 10:41
Well, as it happens this isn't an "old dear" however my other encounter was!

Waiting at a junction behind what turned out to be a woman well into her eighties.

Waited and waited till she eventually set off to the right, which is where I was heading.

She failed to straighten up and finished up half way into the wrong side of the road before grappling with the wheel.

We are moving at 15mph max and she is all over the place. I daren't try to pass, until she stopped dead, in the middle of the road.

An approaching X5 took to the pavement as did I in the end.

Only a matter of time before she causes an incident.

So was telling my daughter and she said I should have called the police (it seems whatever decision I make is the wrong one in somebody's eyes)!

Maybe I should run things across here before taking action on something, including, it seems, buying the wrong car!

Aunty i am surprised you contacted the police over this.

Civil enforcement means local authorities manage
streets and car parks, freeing up police resources.
Parking attendants, known as Civil Enforcement
Officers (CEOs), can issue Penalty Charge Notices
(PCNs) to incorrectly parked cars.

AG.....I wasn't aware of that so why didn't the police tell me that?
