Be careful not to set the house or yourself on fire. The weeds will be back next spring.

Petrol is much too volatile.A friend once got badly burned by using it to kick-start a bonfire.Better to use white spirit.
Good luck with your project. ![]() |

On a more serious note,a fellow plot-holder at my allotment used a gas powered flame thrower thingy to kill weeds. He was a garden centre owner so I sort of assumed that he knew what he was doing but it looked to me to be an expensive way of going about it.Glyphosate works fine for me.
Anyway,if you fancy the flame thrower thing you can pick one up for under £20,gas on top,of course. |

Underlay, gravel, if any weeds manage to get through that just pour boiling water on them, job done.

A neighbour kindly loaned me his flame thrower to deal with weeds in my veggie patch.
I stood there for ages, trying to reduce them to zilch, not realising that they only need to be singed and will subsequently decease themselves! |

Following yet another EU directive we can no longer use "Sodium Chlorate"!
It was cheap and effective whereas "Glyphosate" is expensive and not always that effective. The £5.00 per spray bottles are fine if you don't have much to deal with but out of the question if you have mass areas. I took to buying the concentrate, at more than £20.00 a go, but this is supposed to deal with much greater areas. I say supposed to but, when diluted as per instructions, and using an 8 ltr sprayer. What I have now is some incredible knock out stuff used by farmers and local authourities. It is something like £70.00 (I am told) for 150 g but the smallest quantity with massive dilution will do acres. It is called "Chikara" and from the brilliantly named company called "AGROCHEMICALS". What is also good about it is that it will wipe out anything down to 50mm but deep rooted plants are not affected unless you consciously administer an overdose on them. If you saw it being sprayed, with just a "whiff-whaff", you wouldn't believe it could work but, in two weeks, job done. |

Hell's bells!!! I was told that it cost £75.00 for a small tub, which is mind blowing.
I have about 50gr remaining in a 150gr container, the cost of which was actually £227.00. A 50gr tub is £103.00. . http://www.rigbytaylor.com/Shop+by+Product/Algae+Moss+Weed+Control/Kill+Weeds+On+Hard+Surfaces/Chikara+Tough+Weed+Herbicide+150g_0488380-.htm |
