The dartboard.
The bar billiard table.
The bar staff were big chested women with low morals who would turn a trick for the price of a brandy and babycham. Not a ginger beer in sight.
Carry outs.
You could smoke.
The place didn't do food apart from free roast tatties and sausages on the public bar on Sunday afternoons.
They didn't charge £5.65 for a pint of lager which happened to me in The Paxton in Gypsy Hill this afternoon. (Which is basically a pretty mediocre South East London Pub.)
The bloke with the fish tray selling jellied eels, cockles, whelks and buttered prawns.
People actually spoke to each other and not behaving zombie like permanently on their phone.
Everyone doing the ITV7.

£5.65 for a pint? I didn't have any cash on me at lunchtime so just gave the girl my card. I said I only want 1 pint, she said that's all your getting. Utter madness.

Anyone fond of McSorely's Ale House in New York? Suposedly the oldest bar in NY. only two types of beer, light or dark, can only order two at a time. Ask for a G and T, you will get a beer, well, 2 beers.  Sawdust, bartenders in butchers coats, dirty, they didn't let women in until the 70's when they were forced to.  But touristy maybe, but different and irreverent.

Fish finger sandwich & tartare sauce £6.50

A pint and two fish fingers in white bread will set you back £12.15.

Enjoy..

"Yes, we are a pub, however, we like to think we do things a little bit differently. As in all good pubs, we serve booze and food, but we do it with a twist."

Yes, you certainly do it with a twist - by ripping the eyes and ears off your customers!

Can't believe the Paxton's prices for cheapo white wine.

They serve 250ml measures in most of the pubs here and they cost around £3.45 - £3.90 a glass.

The Paxton charges £4.50 for a 175ml glassful!

Welcome to my world Tommy Sad If you ever decide to move to that London win the lottery first before doing so or else you'll be fecked,

I know Westow House Barry, it's not the only gaff that has a table tennis table. There are at least 2 bars in Lordship Lane, East Dulwich that have them as well. Words fail me.

It's true though, Slippy.

They're almost admitting it with their use of 'a twist'!

I've never seen such scandalous prices for an average boozer (I've looked at the photos).

Yep mac, that's how they roll in there. This riff raff won't be going back in a hurry that's for sure. They don't even show the racing for crissakes.

slippy, the pub I go in charges £3.50p for a pint and 3.20p for a qt gill. The one across the road, £2 for a pint and £1.50p for a short. Without sounding like a snob, I`m quite happy to pay the extra rather than sit listening to a load of nutters with IQs of under 50 Whoops

That's a classic example of "The tw@t tax" If punters are prepared to pay those prices they deserve to be fleeced of their money.

Mrs M informed me that a pack of smokes is over the £9 mark now, is that right? I used to joke that'd I'd stop when they reached a fiver, thinking they never would, but £9? That's mental.

on a slightly different tack, had to drop my daughter off at York uni last Monday morning.on the way backout of York saw a pub chalkboard outside- breakfast served all day come in for a warm welcome-thought that looks like a nice place to stop.went inside said to a woman in the bar can I have a coffee & brandy please & have a look at your breakfast menu, she screamed at me how the f*** do you think i'll have the time for that i'v got 6 rooms to clean before 12 oclock.when I asked her about the blackboard outside, she said has some c*** put that out again.she was so rude I had to laugh when I got back in the car

I agree with Cubanpete calling it the tw@t tax, that sums it up quite nicely. I was literally struck dumb when I got my card receipt back showing how much it was. I didn't stay for a second jar.

She sounds an absolute charmer BB. Thing is, I actually like women with plenty of chutzpah. If she was good looking I'd have stayed and insisted on my coffee and brandy Plain
