2 people have a combined score of 638 with 1 scoring 32% more than the other, what did they both score as individuals?

Worked it out using trial and error, took 3 guesses, but there must be a formula to follow without using trial and error??

638/232*100 = 1 score
638-above = 2 score
Report Gin October 3, 2014 3:19 PM BST
1=275
2=363
total=638

Where do you get the 232 bit from that figure was nt supplied although doing that does give the right answer.

b = 1.32a
a + b = 638
b = 638-a
638-a = 1.32a
638 = 1.32a + a
638 = 2.32a
a = 638/2.32 = 275
b - 638 - 275 = 363

a = 275
b = 363
Report Stow_judge October 3, 2014 3:22 PM BST
b = 638 - 275 = 363
Report Gin October 3, 2014 3:23 PM BST
1 score = 100%
2 score = 132%
Total = 232
