Always associated with the First and Second World Wars.
But surely people should be suffering with the same Shell Shock symptoms today, given all the recent wars in Iraq and Afganastan etc.
But you never hear of it these days. Why is that ?
The same type shelling / bombing is going on in these War zones today as happened 70 / 80 years ago.

That covers everything alright, agreed.
But I never see footage of modern day soldiers twitching uncontrollably or walking around hospital wards babbling some nonsense and walking into walls, etc.

the modern day battlefield bears no resemblance to that of WW1. shellshock was not just caused by actual shells, but by the whole traumatic experience of witnessing mass slaughter - no matter how difficult things might get in afghanistan today the conditions are nothing like WW1.
They are not subject to the same degree of continued bombardment that was experienced in WW1. My opinion.
Not too keen on bursting balloons here.... Dont think id be winning many medals in ww1.. tbh.
Nothing wrong with 'em except lack of moral fibre...
I know. All too common though, particularly in WWII
