I shall include the hours I have worked day by day until next Monday. Personally I don't feel the wage I bring in is worth the hours I do, so a few opinions would be good.

Well, I do that the odd time during the day, but my system on General Betting is the only betting I am doing the now, but once that's up to £10 in bank one then I could live of that

People keep saying it's not that bad, ok, yeah, I do get to work when I like as you can see I'm on the computer and not at work. Knackered after the busy day yesterday. You see, I don't appreciate this job at all, that's why I put it on the forum to see what others thought of it. If it was worth the effort .. ok, am only doing this on the forum for a week and nobody will see all the services, the tyre changes, the brakes, constant repairs ... not to mention all the sitting around doing nothing and then the passengers who can be so annoying at times, lastly driving just makes you so tired ...

boring,
same conversations all day (and night)
very tiring,
very unpredictable (takings wise),
not very good for your health,
occasionally dangerous (late-night nutters, drunks, vomit in cab, etc),
have to work weekends to make proper money (imo),

You seem like a pretty sensible bloke....
Monday to Friday - 8.30 to 5.00 kinda stuff. You drop off samples, etc and order forms then
return about two weeks later for orders, etc. Firms like BETTER BOOKS?
They offer a half-decent wage and commission. Not much hassle involved.
nd you could exercise in the evenings/weekends and do all your other stuff....

Well, I don't have any qualifications in anything. I left school to play professional sport .. I could always train up in coaching doing that but I don't really fancy it. BUT, I have the type of mind where I could learn a lot of things so I would love to learn something that I could work in football, tennis, golf, baseball ... I would however love to do professional betting again for a living but that requires capital and that aint easy to come by. But, I am confident my system on general betting will make me a 5 figure sum ... but it will take time

sounds better than taxi's haha .. I would certainly do that abroad, but not in Glasgow

I loved my driving jobs so much that i pretty much became a devoted slave to the wagon. The bonus for me was getting paid to do it. Stop/start driving for extremely long hrs on a daily basis whilst flipping between my stack of cds and the radio. What's not to like?

I am self-employed, I hire a radio from a company and I just pick up everyone and anyone ... I work just outside Glasgow and I mostly work 7 day weeks, very rarely have a day off ...
Did Taylor win? Seems big odds for him !!

I wouldn't say unskilled completely though, learning to navigate a full city is not as easy as you think ... and if you don't where you are going then you aint gonna make any money ...

What about one off costs, car tax, insurance, uniform ect. Do you give yourself holiday pay, a pension and other perks?
£13 P/H may seem a decent wage but if the above is not included then I don't think it would be much more than minimum wage.

See, no, I am not including all expenses ... just Car Payment, Fuel and Insurance.
I don't have days off that often, but if I did then yeah, its still the same expenses but no income so that becomes a loss ...
It's been a great week this week, but not every week is like this, and trust me, it's an AWFUL job and I don't think it's worth the time, maybe I will do 2 weeks on the forum just to see how it pans out, show the real side of the job ... it's saturday, and I want to watch the football and do something good tonight, but no, I need to go to work all day

Worrying about taking a day off work as it's a loss of earnings is an unhealthy way to live. Being self employed is not as rosey as some may think. Though Cameron loves the self employed, which tells you all you need to know.

If it goes tits up you can always look forward to another straight 7 days in the hot seat

The job is dementing mate, especially on a saturday when most people are drinking ... at least I can chuck it whenever I like though ...

yes mate, done it in 2005/2006 and I know exactly what you mean .... 12 hours a day or more every day, the mood swings, can't watch any sport without thinking it could buy you dinner, pay the phone bill, the amount of time I say on computers on holiday, my ex must have HATED me at the time ... not a great way to make money
I've had the worst downswings bettingwise & playing poker that i can remember since my mug horsey days , very stressful being alone & having to make it all pay , even if you do there aren't many rewards at the end of a 14 hour day (like yesterday)

I would be happy making £10k a year in betting as a hobby, at present I'm only making about £3k per year cause I just don't have the time to do it ... 10 years ago I had good capital to do betting full time, glad I got out it though, it's not healthy

When I was younger & worked in warehouses a driving job would've been a very cushy number to land
I always wanted to do my HGV license , it cost around 1k many years ago not sure what it'd cost to do now , but now I'm a bit older I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much
I was once offered to go to Germany to drive HGV's without a license as you used to be able to drive them on a normal license over there , but was younger & didn't want to spend weeks away sleeping in a cab
Many driving jobs are hard long work in reality nowadays , plus it usually takes knowing somebody already in the trade to get you started (like taxi driving)

I doubt I would be unemployed, I have never been unemployed and never wish to do so. I would be unhappy in other lines of work yes, being self-employed though is more stressful than being in paid work.
As for getting or even wishing for a PGA card, that will always be a dream .. I can't get my handicap under 12 lol ... don't get enough time to play
I'm going to cut back playing poker at the end of this year , it'll be a pay drop for me & am not sure what i'll do but it's driving me literally insane & have to draw the line somewhere now
If the top few % were only making 15k per year in the heyday then maybe 10k year part time is being over optimistic
Personally you seem unhappy about other things in your life too , but money doesn't necessarily change you or make you much happier , you're still the same person inside
