I trained and qualified as an accountant many years ago and then went on to be an international management consultant (honest).  Loved it but discovered Betfair a few years ago and love it a million times more.
Love the camaraderie (with myself)
Love having nobody else to please or irritate me
Love making money without having to go outside and talk to people
Love it that if I get it wrong there's nobody else to blame

Only other job I'd probably enjoy is an undertaker - but only dealing with people I wouldn't have liked.

I was an accountant some time ago. Never became fully qualified. I'd passed about 75% of the exams reasonably well but became ill about six weeks before the next lot. Never got back in to the studying.

Got to an age where I just got fed up with being nice to people and doing all that lovey change managemnt stuff.  Just wanted to tell people to stop moaning and do it.  But modern mgt thinking is about inclusion etc etc.
And then I discovered Betfair and became a free man.  Pi$$ed off a few people and never looked back.
Difference between earning money and making money.

A lot of what you say strikes a chord.

It's quite stressful being nice all day to people you don't see eye-to-eye with.

Unfortunately, the amount of money I make on Betfair isn't enough to feed a hamster but it's not my living.

I'm currently doing a Python programming course and am also subscribed to Android and C# courses. I've a few mobile apps to develope but I'm struggling to understand current programming methods to program them.

When I left school and started an apprenticeship I thought that was it but you can do anything at any age if you put your mind to it. I will get my apps made and maybe make a few £££'s from a few of them, I just wish I realised this 25 years ago.

Some individuals may say they'd do exactly the same again and others may be happy with what they're doing now (like yourself, altough it sounds like you wish you'd have done it earlier.)

I think most of us would have done something different if we were 18 again but that's with the benefit of experience and that wonderful thing called hindsight.

Kind of wished I had followed a career in architecture though, on reflection, I would rather be a "Gigolo"...

Ok saying that, but there is something that drives successful people to just keep going.

My niece's husband was a millionaire, through hard graft and shrewdness, at twenty seven years old.

He sold all of his interests eight years ago, for circa £7 million, and bought a twelve room chateau in the Loire Valley,
plus two rental gites, and other development buildings on the same site.

He could put his feet up, but now is a successful developer in France, principally for UK clients having bought property there.
Also a successful, and very knowledgeable dealer in antiques, with which his house is furnished.

Why do people just keep going at it, when they could have retired years ago! It's a completely different mind set.
It isn't for the money as they don't desperately need it.

A few examples such as Alan Sugar, Richard Branson, the entire cast of "Dragon's Den" and a whole host of iconic pop groups,
plus the likes of Bruce Forsyth (who will probably die on set, as did Tommy cooper).

My Brother.  Left school with no qualifications and forced to join the army or get out of the house.  Bought himself out after 4 years in the Royal Engineers and made a fortune in landfill gas extraction.  Now he's in imports.  Could have retired at 45, but loves work too much.  Now in his 60's, one of his secrets of success is to be at your desk by 7AM because you get your best work done before everyone else arrives to distract you at 9.

If he had to stop working, I swear it would kill him.
