A strange one that has me flummoxed..

Plod reckons they have no proof of her being harmed?
If the Latvian builder abducted her - how, with his bike? If he had a car in wait, plod haven't released any details of it.
4 days before they contacted Latvia about him.
Cameras supposedly alll over the area but plod only have a couple of glimpses of her.
Why hasn't the canal been dragged? This would fit in with plod saying they have no proof of her being harmed.
Is there any chance she ran off with this bloke? Did she run off with someone else? Once again plod saying nowt.
They haven't once said they fear for her safety, which is standard for a suspected abduction.
Family involvement? Other suspects have been interviewed.

Weird.

The body of Alice was found in a part of the river which was only 3ft deep.

Sounds like whoever did it had Navy Seal type skills, to evade detection.

The prime suspect in the mysterious disappearance of schoolgirl Alice Gross was in the Latvian army where he was taught survival skills. - Probably in the woods somewhere in the EU. Good luck plods.
Report guinness2dear October 2, 2014 9:50 PM BST
Weird innit. As i say, that bike was summat special.

Also if you go to that much trouble to bury a body, then why leave evidence (handbag etc) so close by?
Report naydam October 2, 2014 10:06 PM BST
Hmmm. I get the distinct impression that the police are releasing the evidence on a need-to-know basis.
I also get the impression that the CCDA Guessing Club are high up on the don't-need-to-know list.

When Arnis Zalkaln`s killed his first wife he had prepared her grave in advance, he also planted the weapons next to it, Then tricked her into going into the forest.

Police are suggesting whoever killed Alice had planned it all out in advance. The plastic sack, the logs and materials must have been all hidden close by and he waited for her. It`s like something out of a crime novel.
Report naydam October 2, 2014 10:22 PM BST

Not really, we're all guessers on here (unless we is involved of course)

Would make a change for you to pass an opinion rather than snipe.
Report naydam October 2, 2014 11:06 PM BST
Well, my opinion is that we (the general public) are probably lacking many pieces of information that might enable us to hazard a guess to the events. But as it stands all we know is that the girl is dead, probably murdered by person or persons unknown. Plus a local man with a criminal past is also missing and apparently, the father has dodgy eyes and looks at the floor a lot.

Ir it was a horse race it would be 'no bet'. Not enough information to form an opinion.
Report guinness2dear October 2, 2014 11:10 PM BST
Meanwhile, residents who live near the spot where Alice’s body was found expressed surprise that she was recovered from a stretch of river that appeared to have been meticulously searched before. “I was surprised. I find it difficult to see how you can conceal someone in a canal in broad daylight,” said canalboat engineer Barry Nother, 53, whose boat was moored 50 yards from where Alice was found. “It’s shallow there and it’s busy as hell around here, with all kinds of joggers, cyclists, people taking their kids to school.”

Weird.

Yes was thinking myself that must have been likely. There isn't much doubt in my mind that he wouldn't take the risk of going back to the crime scene to do anything of any note, once Alice had been reported missing.

And spending any significant time arranging an elaborate burial scene on the day would also increase his chances of being seen, unless he waited until nightfall. Which in itself would decrease his chances of a successful concealment in anything but a ready made burial chamber.

So you would imagine there is a strong possibility of pre-planning - unless the police are over playing the complexity of the burial scene that has been described on here today.

For him to kill himself in the woods, well what was the point to it all. Did the guilt finally over run him. If so why didn`t the conscience prevent him from killing in the first place.

If he intended suicide ... it seems strange the lengths taken to hide the body.

I suggest an abduction, followed by a sex crime - possibly in the woods. I seem to remember he didn't disappear for some days after Alice Gross was missing ... perhaps this was when he hid the body, initially in the woods or a property .. followed by planning the disposal in the water.

The anguish and guilt must have come later leading to suicide.

The police regarded Alice as missing rather than murdered initially. Perhaps this enabled him to access the site where he hid the body.

It's difficult to believe he was able to hide the body in broad daylight on the day Alice went missing.

From what I read the area was cordoned off for the search in sections.

When they moved on to the next area, the blue and white police tape was no doubt removed, giving the murderer (or an accomplice) a chance to put the body where the police had already searched.
