Arild Stavrum, ex-Aberdeen footballer, was on Off the Ball on Radio Scotland on Saturday. It's funny how you can watch or hear something non-political, and it tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about being a so called "nation."

Arild told the two supposedly learned hosts about the Norwegian Dissolution Referendum of 1905, when Norway gained independence from Sweden...previously, Norway had been attached to Denmark. Arild joked that it was "like a Saddaam Hussein vote."
85.4% turnout, women did not have the vote, yet Norwegian suffragists collected 244,675 votes for dissolution of the Union.
368,208 - "yes"
184 - "no"
3,519 - spoiled votes.
And that, Scottish bottlers, is a Nation.

Yeah - I can see you're STAUNCH from here! I'm guessing you "Don't do walking away..." I noticed a nice tin of tan shoe polish for a quid in the chemist's today - will I send you a tin for those dignified brogues of staunchness?
Absolutely nothing to do with "bottle", you're showing yourself up with your ignorance.
I'm English born to an English mother and Scottish father and was brought up in Scotland until I was eight.
I consider my nationality as British. I wasn't eligible to vote but would have been a cast iron NO. My own father could have been a foreigner almost overnight with a YES vote majority.
The Scots instigated the Union, we all live on a small island and most of us have bloodlines from both sides of Hadrian's Wall. We don't want our families to be foreigners. We're better together for countless reasons.

That's a good point, Brendan. The schools and official buildings in Scotland are labelled with Gaelic signs too...to the effect of general merriment by the locals in Glasgow, etc.

That's a good point, Breadn. The schools and official buildings in Peru are staffed with Quechua speakers...to the effect of general merriment by the locals in Lima, etc., who tend to dislike a merely spoken language IMPOSED by a moribund empire.

Over 2m voted to remain loyal to the Union. Loyal to our brothers and sisters in England, Wales and Ireland. (When I say Ireland I'm obviously ignoring the foreign south part)

seeing the No voters singing "Let's all laugh at Scotland", waving the Union Jack and burning the Saltire in George Square Glasgow on Friday says it all, all ignored by mainstream media not surprisingly.

@caleyjags Try this link which tells a different story. It would seem it's not just the media who ignore things. Cries of "Brits out" and "up the ra" what's that got to do with Scotland.

I think we have very different definitions of "fair and square
So it would appear does Salmond. Changes the rules to allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote for the first time. I wonder why.

The bottlers will always be known as 'The Treacherous'.
Future generations will deny all knowledge of being related to them. The shame would be too much to cope with.

There was no indication that Scotland wanted to leave the Union. There was two years of campaigning from both sides before the referendum and still after all this time the people spoke and wished to remain in the Union as was thought all along. Only a numpty could think that is treachery or bottling. It's called democracy.
How on earth can someone say Scotland should be independent and decide it's own future and then when it decides it's future to remain in the Union piss and moan because it wasn't the decision you wanted?
People are far more likely to look back in the future and see how divisive this whole thing was as the 45% rather than focusing on creating a better future in a devolved Scotland focus their negative energy on insults and boycotts.
And the insults from yes voters continues. There was no indication that Scotland wanted to leave the Union. There was two years of campaigning from both sides before the referendum and still after all this time the people spoke and wished to remain i
I would say the majority of NO voters wished for the status quo to remain for their own self preservation. Nothing else.
It's the people that keep mentioning 'union this, union that' who I would guess had other agendas for it.
Like I said a sad living in the dark ages fantasy outlook on life. All you can show to them is pity. Poor deluded souls

of course Salmond wanted the 16 and 17 year olds involved, they have intellects, so where always more likely to vote YES.
But they are massively outnumbered by the crusties.

Can't find the 16/17 vote isolated but this would seem to suggest you are wrong.
16-24 was 51%-49% NO 25-39 was 55%-45% YES 40-59 was 53%-47% NO 60-64 was 55%-45% NO 65+….was 66%-34% NO

Salmond wanted the kids to get the vote because they are reckless and have no life experience. That's why they can't even buy sparklers on bonfire night.

why the feck would Scottish people, who, very sensibly, don't want anything to do with those tory swine making decisions over their future, wish to continue with the status quo? perhaps they believe things will get better with a labour gov't back in control, cant believe the sight of brown flailing his arms around like he never ever did when for eg. demanding rights for the ordinary bloke, has produced a yes vote. Vel is correct! Bottlers!

The vote was won by the prudent "steady-as-she-goes, don't rock the boat!" naysayers that make up the Scotland as we know today
