Does anybody record stuff off TV? I like to record the racing. Looks like DVDs are almost obsolete and the price of DVD recorders has doubled in the last few years since I bought one. What's the best system now? Do you just go for systems that record mp4 or similar digital files now?

I record onto the hard drive with the Virgin Tivo box.
I have a sky+ box, a humax freesat box, another box, a dvd disk/hdd recorder and a video recorder 
The boxes don't look any dearer to me

Got some good reviews. Particularly with the older blokes.
It's a shame you got it set up easily...I'm sure Tommy Toes would have offered to fiddle with it.
I had a DVD recorder before I got a HD recorder, HD recorder is so much nicer. Can record 2 programs at once. Can pause live tv (if I'm already watching it). If you've BT you might want to think about the BT youview, I don't use it but I know someone who does who seems happy. (You can get satellite HD recorders as well).
