It'll be on 4+1. It is an interesting peek into real-life (I think) in Pakistan. Yikes!!!

Hard to watch Naydam - Just the tip of the iceberg I fear. We are so well off in every way by comparison. God knows what it's like for women.

Did not see it - But the thread/Programme title reminded me of the widely reported incident last year -
- When a Father killed his own daughter, and grandchildren - in a, so-called, 'honour killing' - because she married a man that her father did not want her to marry. |

I was in Pakistan a few months ago.Karachi is fairly progressive by Pakistani standards but the likes of Peshawar (only a few miles from Afghanistan) are very backward.
In three days in Peshawar i think i saw 4 or 5 women in the street. All completely covered by the burka. A Pakistani man explained to me that after the age of 13 or so girls are basically locked up in their house for the rest of their lives. I met a gay Filipino in a hostel in Lahore...he told me that he never got more attention from men than in Peshawar. He told me that because they are no women around almost all men have sex with other men!! Karachi is surprisingly liberal though. There, you can see women wearing western clothes, working in professions etc.Unfortunately the city is an absolute dump. |
