I spent 1995 to 2003 talking to myself.
My daughters were teenagers back then. |

"Do I have time to reply to this? Not sure. Maybe later."

Check out the "Chit Chat pub " thread

I've always done it, ever since I was a kid. I usually make myself laugh out loud when I'm doing it too, as I'm usually pondering something which has just been said to me that's made me laugh - or something someone has said to me in the past about something daft that suddenly comes to mind.
So I must look like a complete nutter walking around the town talking and laughing to myself! Does it bother me? Not a jot! |
|

Oh 'ey up, here's that berk again who thinks there's only me in the Chit Chat pub!
He/she will be even more convinced now! That's set the giggling pin off again! |

We must be long lost twins Tommy.. |

yeah i do it all the time. dont care if i look mental, at least it stops people talking to me.
|

By:
Do you do it too then Guinness? It's a great laugh isn't it?!
I actually caused myself an injury on Tuesday by thinking back to a previous funny incident when I was loading more peas in my pantry among the unopened and unused myriad jars of jam! I remembered how the year before my mother died when she was in hospital when she nearly died and was aggressively telling the doctor how many potatoes were in the pantry because I kept buying them and trying to (as she put it) "shovel them down her"! I actually pulled another muscle in my already delicate back (from an incident a few weeks ago) as I was laughing so much at the memory - and could barely move for the rest of the day! |
|
By:
Painful, Tommy.
Yes, i'm always laughing to myself. I laugh at things past and present, or things i read, i laugh at things i write or things that just come to me. I laugh out loud when i see my Ma still do me 2 roast dinners on a Sunday thinking i'm still 12 and need "building up" She always asks why i'm laughing but haven't the heart to tell her.. |
|
By:
Me too, Guinness - laugh at all sorts of stuff, that is - not your mum's two Sunday dinners!
|

I do it all the time and have to be careful when my wife is nearby.

Tommy: I do think the talking to oneselves mainly come from the fact that we are gamblers. We surely have all mumbled watching our hoss over the years, or barked at the tv when ones hoss is clear. Shouted expletives are the norm when it's fell at the last, specially when the twot next to you cheers when his is left to win and then he shows you his slip with 2 bob win on it..

"I do it all the time and have to be careful when my wife is nearby".
How can I put this? Do you mean extremely nearby? I mean actually as near as anyone can get to another! |
|
By:
I think mine comes from my mad Irish dad, Guinness. He was always bursting into little ditties and dancing like a 'nana in the kitchen when something came to mind that amused him, or repeating a daft remark he'd heard that day which made him choke with laughter - which made me laugh like a lunatic too - and I think I just carried the daft habit on!
|
|
By:
It's probably a good thing to help to vent your anger. I mean, how can you say "what the feking hell" in your head, and get any relief from it?
|
|
By:
I swear at myself a lot, and not always just when golfing!
|
|
By:

Aye there is that as well. Only mine used to throw tellys through the window when his hoss lost. Crisp was the worst case as i nearly followed it when i quipped "Didn't you win then Da?" |
|
By:
Hahaha!
|

Crisp.
Sad memories of that day, biggest bet I had ever had on a horse. ![]() But I did go straight round the bookies and back Red Rum for the following year. 'Horses don't with the national twice' he said. 'Gimme 14s then' I said 'It's spring, not christmas.' was his reply. 'Gimme 12s, last chance to nick my money.' He did. ![]() |

Good point about gamblers being afflicted with this: "Go on, Hughesie!
Go on, Hughes! GO ON, HUGHES! Oh FFS, Hughes. "I talk to myself all the time. Being deaf it's about the only way I get to have an enjoyable conversation these days. There's no real reason why talking to yourself should be odd. Every single thought we have is a conversation in words, whether it happens to be voiced or not. |

talking releases endorphins, talking to other people or yourself is good for your brain's natural chemistry and general well being
