Scotland has got the govt it voted for 12 out of the last 18 elections.  Same as England.  Not bad going.

It's a myth that we'd get a govt that gives a **** about us in an independent Scotland.  Politicians give a **** only about themselves & that won't change.

I find it incredibly odd that we've reached this point.  The SNP haven't got 'into power' at Holyrood on an Independence ticket at all.  I can't remember any great outcry or desire for independence when this all started.  It's down to Scots feeling that the SNP were the only alternative to the traditional Labour vote. Labour seen as almost bad as the Tories up here now. Salmond has lucked out with a Tory Govt in place, with David Cameron just the sort of guy that Scots love to hate.

I hope enough of us can vote with heads, instead of looking at the short term political situation. Devo-max will do for me.

Nobody knows for sure how things will transpire in 20, 30, 40 years time all that certain is that it will be down to how well the Scots manage all aspects of life there.

However one thing is certain.....Scots in the future will feel prouder......more confident, more visionary, and less f*ckin' dependent - this will underpin greater prosperity medium to long term.

Exactly. Nobody knows...

Which is why the polls are seemingly so close.  I'm proud to be Scottish and also proud to be British.  I don't feel dependent on England.  Of course if we become independent, it will largely be down to us how well we do.  However, I don't think that emotional responses such as pride and confidence really cut it.

I don't really buy into the positivity of making our own choices. What if the choices available to us are so much the poorer in an independent Scotland?

There seems to be a misguided notion that only the yes voters truly want what's best for Scotland.

Any way, it's a question we'll never know the answer to.  Both situations can't exist concurrently so we'll never know which way would have worked out better.  As as No voter, I feel that I can't lose.  At least a Yes vote will create some excitement.

Scotland is and will always be a separate country. Britain is a political and economic construct that Scotland was dragged into, against the wishes of the majority of its people. The people of Scotland never ever voted to be part of Britain or to be ruled by an elite in London.

While there may have been a time - when the British empire was at its peak - when Scotland may have benefited from the union it is difficult to argue that in the last 50 years that has been the case: Thatcherism, the Poll Tax, the Bedroom Tax, Food Banks, child poverty, austerity measures against the most vulnerable, sons killed in illegal wars, a near privatised NHS, PPP, ATOS, nuclear weapons and nuclear waste, decimated traditional industries, an over reliance on Financial services, tax cuts for the richest baztards, zero hour contracts, squandered oil revenues, a concentration of public spending on London...

Forget about emotion. An independent Scotland can do better...if for no other reason than it can´t do any worse. Better Together my arrse.

I just hope the people of Scotland will not be fooled by anything salmond promises and vote no in three weeks time. remember separation is not just for Christmas it forever!!!!Angry

I refuse to give in to the fear that we need to be bigger to protect me from the banks failing or from the terrorists that want to get me.

Salmond seems to be able to give the answers in relation to free prescriptions,  no university fee's, getting rid of trident and affordable childcare though and using them as reasons for a yes vote when there's no evidence regarding whether an independent Scotland would be in favour of these policies, they are feasible or that any newly elected party would have similar policies.

I´m not sure what it is you don´t understand Dude. Of course the elected Scottish government will be doing the negotiations post independence, who else should do it? But negotiations over currency, the EU etc will take years not weeks or months. Every party will have a chance at the 2016 election to set out their policies and the Scottish people will decide what they want.

And, of course Salmond can give definitive answers about the things you mention because these are things that come under the current powers of the Scottish government, and things that the SNP was elected to do. This SNP tome of toilet paper is apparently the independence bible, and will happen, and is used as the guide to what will (they say) happen, their advertising brochure. BUT as soon as you bring up anything that sounds "bad" however, well THAT should be ignored for now, it can't be discussed, that's for negotiation and lets put that to the side, sweep it under the carpet, lets not scare the natives with "facts" or "reality".

And if you don't like Salmond or the SNP? Well actually it's suddenly all nothing to do with the SNP despite the fact they'll be negotiating it according to what is laid out in their B/S white paper. Without 'condoning violence' as you later stated, you hoped a broken jaw (reported at time of posting, now confirmed as NOT the case) would keep Galloway quiet?

The organised campaign against Jim Murphy is wrong. I find it absurd. Abuse is unacceptable. By all means go to these events, take note of points he makes and make up leaflets which counter his points to hand them out but this is out of order.

Throwing eggs is childish and damaging to the campaign but eggs wash off. Scalded skin and broken jaws (which I repeat was the report at time of posting, not the outcome) are harder to put right but of course the former did not happen and if the latter happens to the 'right' person it gives you 'hope' he will be 'kept quiet for a while.'

The Yes campaign social media is right there with them organising things, then at the demo they appear and surround Murphy and shout him down. You see the videos, he's surrounded by an intimidating mob of people with Yes boards and Yes clothes crowding round shouting and baying and heckling making it pretty much impossible for people to ask Murphy questions or hear the response.

The Yes attitude of sending mobs to make sure alternative views just aren't heard really is 30s Beerhall stuff from an earlier bunch of Nationalists

Maybe there were just more of them to start with, or had you failed to consider that? As for the 1930s mob, previous threads have shown that your politics are more closely aligned with them than anything else in Scotland is.

The YES campaigners showing their class in Kirkcaldy where Jim Murphy was pelted with eggs as was one of their own, a cancer sufferer, who asked them to stop. Later in Montrose a group of OAPs were subjected to verbal abuse for wearing NO badges and speaking up for the Union. The violence has obviously struck a cord with the Belfast pub.
Alias I have replaced my Union Flag with the Maribor badge in honour of sporting integrity but it will return next week and as regards the Irish I was, of course, ignoring their foreign neighbours the Oirish. HTH.
BETTER TORYGETHER

ONE man hit Murphy with ONE egg.

as regards the Irish I was, of course, ignoring their foreign neighbours the Oirish

And you have the nerve to accuse others of insults?

Come on akabula, once again, which one is YOU in this video of NICE No supporters?

I was actually wondering why the the forum serial liar and troll Alias wasn't jumping in, avoiding any actual points, and as usual accusing me of being a fascist, merely becauise I oppose his beloved commuism.
In his tiny mind to oppose communism makes you a fascist.
Fact: I'm a liberal who fiercely opposes fascism and communism.
Fact: Alias is fine with communism. He's an apologist for Stalin and the mass murder of millions.
A sad predictable ageing little troll. I see you're trying the same tricks with akabula, constantly playing the man not the ball, avoiding inconvenient facts, in between random rants about the tories like political tourettes. You're a bit of a one trick pony?

In response to John and conductor I was just about to post how refreshing it was to see a friendly respectful discussion on the BF forum which didn´t sink into childish personal attacks...:-(

TipTheOdds I'm sorry but any thread I appear on Alias has a habit of popping up and starting his trolling ****, that was a reaction to him. He's a troll just look at how he tries to get others going, and I have no itnention of further arguing with him as I'm above that, BUT I will not let the pathetic little mans attempt to smear me as a fascist stand in case others actually believe him.

I am expecting a no vote and will be disappointed on the 19th. I have been looking at flights for a couple of days away, just vote then head to the airport. Once I come back it will be over and I will let it go. I won't be asking who voted what way afterwards to cast it up when 'the big bad tories' do something else. It's not my style. We all need to get on afterwards and I'll happily buy 95% of people a pint..... as I have said there are utter cretins on both sides.

I don't like being lumped in with loudmouth halfwits and no voters wouldn't like that either. There is a public meeting with Jim Sillars and Alex Neil in my village next week and I will raise this.

I must admit for personal reasons that I seriously object to allegations of 'scalding hot tea' being thrown without proof or retraction and my anger about that, and the Galloway comment, leads me to ignore somebody, not a dfference of politics.

Just to demonstrate that violence is not restricted to one side, here´s a story about an 80-year-old pensioner who was attacked because he supported the Yes campaign:

Probably this story won´t be given the same publicity as Murphy´s egg...

Scroll back JC, and you'll likely find that I was on the thread before you.

Show me any post which I've ever made apologising for Stalin. As for Communism per se, well your political education is sadly lacking if you think Stalin was a Communist. However, do you blame the peoples of Russia, Vietnam etc for turning to Communism when they did? Yes or no will suffice.
A sad predictable ageing little troll. I see you're trying the same tricks with akabula,

Maybe better check with akabula ref the "ageing" bit as he claims to be in the same bracket. Does it have to go with "sad" by the way? As for troll, see above. You were here second.

constantly playing the man not the ball, avoiding inconvenient facts, in between random rants about the tories like political tourettes. You're a bit of a one trick pony?

Your last sentence is obviously a statement, and as such does not require a question mark. Are you perhaps one of those sad, young trolls who insists on AQI, as well as peddling unnecessary insults?

PS Have you considered that the Murphy case might have been an example of agent provocateur? Or do you really believe that the interests of HM Govt are promoted to the letter of fairness?
