Has the EU ever come up with any legislation that makes sense?
As IS says, a smaller vacuum cleaner will simply take longer to clean your house. You'll probably use more power in the long run trying to get the carpet clean.

Just checked on the wattage of my Goblin. It's a 1400 watt. I was advised by somebody not to go down the Dyson route as the filters can cause problems. (apparently) Had this bullsh!t been 1800 watts, I would have eventually not been able to buy hoover bags for it. It's about ten years old and has served me well. If it's not broken..

We've got a Vax 2100w. It's that good it lifts the carpet as it sucks. These EU idiots are trying to take us back to the Stone Age.
I'll leave a light on in my house 24/7 as a protest against their legislation.

it's about motor efficiency - thats all. higher wattage does not equate to suck-power, just higher leccy bills. the motors will just have to be more efficient.

Dyson is taking another matter to the European courts.
I'm with tictacman1 on push-along carpet sweepers. I can rarely be arsed to plug in a vacuum cleaner and drag it around, tripping over the lead. But a couple of minutes with a Leifheit Rotaro is enough to get the house looking presentable and restore a little dignity to life.

my dyson is so powerful it sucks up half the carpet every time i use it. slight exaggeration, but there is now a good one inch round the skirting board where the dyson has eaten the carpet threads. not bothered cos the carpet is crap anyway, only still there cos im looking to move so no point getting a new one, but its a right pain in the bum untangling the thread off the bottom of the dyson.

I was impressed with the Dyson that my mate had. He used to empty his ash tray on the floor and hoover it up (my mates have a strange concept of what showing off is!) without any marks/stains being left behind. Fast forward ten years and my parents ask us if we want their old Dyson, as they have new one. So what does numbnuts here do? That's right, I get my ash tray and tip it on the carpet, the look on my mrs's face as I did it was priceless. But I reassured her that I new what I was doing, and told her that she'd be mildly impressed with me afterwards. How wrong was I? The hoover was absolutely shoite, instead of sucking up the ash and butt ends it spread it round our living room like a mini tornado. The few f@g ends it did pick up got stuck in the hoses and I had to clean them out, as well as getting down on my hands and knees and scrubbing the carpet clean(or as close to clean as I could). About an hour after my stupidity I remembered that my mate had laminated flooring, and it would have been much easier to hoover up on that kind of surface instead of carpet.

That reminds me of the bullshine they shot us about energy saving bulbs.
Just as bright for a fraction of the energy. We fell for that one all right.
