Pop man = man who delivered pop - to us (and others) bringing it round on wagon in crates once a week.  For us it was SYDS (South  Yorkshire Dairies S??? I think (I was only 4 so was more interested in pop than acronyms).
Dandelion & Burdock was my favourite (no idea what was in it - still don't except I know now that dandelions are a diuretic ... hence the bed wetting connotation.
And Cream Soda
And Cherryade.
None of your teeth rotting crap of today.
Vodka and cherryade, rum and cream soda, whisky and dandelion and burdock on the rocks, martini tizer, shaken not stirred.
Happy memories of a 4 year old ... who needed laughing gas or glue?

I'll give you one that 'went wrong' but is back to its best now - or possibly even better than when it was introduced 'back in the day':

Tangle Twister ice lollies - now called 'Twister'.

I used to love these things, being a bit of an ice lolly enthusiast, and ate many of them.
Then, about 10-20 years ago I bought a box of them from Tesco and they seemed hard and unpleasant and not like a 'Tangle Twister' at all.
I thought it might have just been a bad box, so bought some more, but they were just the same.

I hadn't bought (or eaten) any since, until I bought some just over a week ago as they were on offer and Sainsbury's didn't have much of a selection of lollies I fancied.

I was delighted to find that although the 'Twister' was now of a mini-size - it was once again a wonderful lolly and as nice as they ever were.
Possibly even nicer.

A rarity to find something 'returning to its roots' after years in the wilderness - but a very nice thing to experience!

It isn't!

It's a Bosch - and I pat it everyday for being the best fridge-freezer in the world!

Womens breasts...there I said it.

In the old days a bird with big jugs used to lose one on either side as the flopped out of the way if she was on her back during horizontal aerobics.

Todays plastic tits stay pointing at the ceiling.

Oh and fridge freezers. Time was you could put your ice lollies in and 'know' how they were going to be at consumption - these days it's a lottery Wink

Haha! Very good Desmond!

Could be that they're MUCH better now, as the last time I'd bought the Tangle Twisters that old scrote of a fridge freezer was totally unpredictable and used to ice up all the time.

I've had the Bosch for about 9 years now - and have never even had to defrost it!

- and once again the 'delivery man' is on the rise with the advent of online shopping - and better than before!

It's absolutely marvellous that you no longer have to trawl around a supermarket, or visit multiple clothes and shoe shops for what you want.

You can now visit various sites at leisure. Compare and contrast - and have all the buggers delivered - saving hours and hours and hours of nonsense!

Sending a bet off to Shermans or McLauchlan's. Postal Order. Was on if the post mark was before the race. How trusting were bookmakers in those days.
I bet the sorting office workers got up to some tricks.

I understand the need for nostalgia and how it brings pleasure to some - but you really have to look at the wider picture and realise how most day-to-day living is just so much easier and pleasurable now than it has ever been - for all.

I'd rather go back 70 years. People appreciated even small things. Greed has taken over. You could leave the front door open without worrying.Dreadful world we live in now.

That's a very narrow view to take, Clacton.

Why should the backbone of this country - the working class people - have been 'grateful' for even the small things in life when the rich were taking so much advantage of them - just like Cameron and co are trying to return the UK to?
