what about a positive representation of people living in social housing, must be about the same percentage as those living in rural areas etc
|

and of course lots of folks fall into both groups. A decent piece on affordable rural housing would be nice, but the BBC only does "pretty pretty"

Perhaps they could go a piece on Appleby Horse Fair? Only this time focusing on the rubbish left behind by the travellers, not to mention horses with thier legs ruined after being raced on tarmac roads.

They actually did a piece on Appleby a few years ago. It was as usual, pretty sanitised with the usual bucolic scenes of lads washing their ponies down in the river. Still, they did at least cover it.

The BBC cover more of the countryside than they do of the wonderful multicultural London Borough of Newham.
These are the items on the Newham Recorder on-line crime page. Pupils taken ill in Tuberculosis outbreak at Beckton school. Pensioner arrested in Newham over planned female genital mutilation of 11-year-old. Beckton kidnap gang jailed for more than 76 years. Police hunt for Canning Town man for murder in Hendon Three men bailed in Plaistow Halloween shooting investigation. Police appeal after 16-year-old stabbed in Plaistow Park. Former Manor Park teacher jailed for molesting children in his care more than 40 years ago. Trial begins for teenagers accused of Queen’s Market murder. Teenager jailed for 15 years over Beckton hammer attack. Appeal after woman’s nose broken in unprovoked Plaistow assault. Police hunt woman and 3 men after attack on east London bus driver. Appeal after man punched on train at West Ham station. Most of the stories have photos or descriptions of the criminals. . Chester it ain't. ![]() |

Oi cmat!, start yer own thread if you have an axe to grind
. Not wishing to underplay the issues in Newham, but the "countryside" is a bit bigger and quite frankly more important in the grand scheme (people, economic, environmental etc) of things. Good luck with your crusade though. |

CMAT - I worked with a gal who was frightfully posh. I had misread her cv and during a relaxed conversation I asked her what she had studied at Newham College.
She replied "ffs I went to Newnham, Cambridge". How we (didn't) laugh (she didn't say "ffs" though). |
