Not until recently. Then started thinking about them. Discovered one had been knocked off his bike and killed 2 years ago. Life is short. Live it!

Meet up once a year with a dozen of then for a meal and a catch up. Am still pally with another 2.
3 lads from my year or thereabouts did well. Mick Jackson became bass guitarist for The Love Affair pop group, of Everlasting Love fame. Bruce Bould became an actor and appeared with Leonard Rossiter in Reggie Perrin. David Bairstow (father of England wicket-keeper Johnny) played for Yorkshire and England at cricket. Sadly he killed himself. |

Have never thought about it until you posted this. Can only recall a few and only one I'd like to know how her life developed.
She was my first girlfriend. |

'David Bairstow (father of England wicket-keeper Johnny) played for Yorkshire and England at cricket. Sadly he killed himself'. Obviously he didn't think so. |

I can look at my school photograph from 1962, taken when we were 11-17 and still name about 75% of the 100 or so who were in my year.
|
|
By:
i cant really remember any of their names. seems like 5 lifetimes ago.
|
|
By:
Kenny I went online and viewed an old school photo from 1964. The names were listed underneath but even then I couldn't remember many of them.
I've bumped into a few over the years but never really felt any great connection with them. Life moves on I suppose. |

I had no mates at my senior school, they were just boys in my class, I never saw them after school finished for the day. None of them came from where I lived, almost two miles from the school, which was a huge distance to travel to school in east London. The rest of the school all came from the north of the borough. How I got to got sent there was beyond me. Other mates from junior school who passed the 11-plus all went to schools near where we lived.
Senior school kids where I live now have to go 10+ miles to school, but I was the only one at my school for 4 years to come from two miles away, down near the docks. There were 19 other boys in my year (10 in each class) only 4 were on Friends Reunited when that started, all high flying executives now. We exchanged greetings and that was it. When Facebook emerged, 2 of the 4 appeared, but I didn't bother contacting them again. Still in moderate touch with about 4 or 5 mates from where we lived, but we're all over the UK now. The only exception is my best mate, we have known each other for over 40+ years. We went to different junior schools and different senior schools, but we just 'clicked' when we met via one of his brothers. |

Don't think much about it these days but did have a look on "Friends Reunited" years ago, but not that many on there.
My good friend Pete Jennings became an architect but committed suicide. Wouldn't have known this, but met an old friend and she told me that my next door neighbour, same age as me, also committed suicide with a shotgun. Did jury duty back in the '70's, and whilst waiting for our case to come up, Granville Rooley walked passed wearing a gown, and with a massive pile of books under his arm. Friend from the youth club committed suicide, as he was paralysed after diving into the pool from the balcony. Steven Battye, co founder of "Skopos", made it big-time, but like so many lost his fight with "The Big C" in his fifties. The gorgeous Stella from Grammar School, with whom I was besotted, married a farmer but parted long ago. |

Strange that nearly everyone on "Friends Reunited" are mega successful, and living in exotic places!!! |

^^^^ Not me, I don't tell lies, on here or in the real world. Working class and proud of it. I checked (as you do) my 4 old class mates. One is a barrister, the others have their own companies, one in civil engineering, the other two are solicitors. I was told that one sad facker, who must have loved the place, went back to our school as the Headmaster some years later!! The case of Ms C. Barratt. A girl from our school, one Constance Barratt, was an early member of Friends Reunited, and decided to tell the world how well she had done. She was now an exective of a large pharmaceutical company and flew all over the world, first class, naturally, on business trips. About a year later, another girl who had just joined posted that there was an uncanny resemblance between the high flying executive Constance Barratt, and Connie Barratt, who worked behind the sales counter at Boots the chemist in Romford. ![]() Ms C. Barratt vanished from FR, and was never seen again. |

I didn't stay in contact with anyone from school. I'm not interested in reading on Facebook etc about people's wonderful jobs, family etc I'm more interested in those who ended up in prison, commited suicide, went bankrupt, ended up in the nuthouse etc. Unfortunetly people don't usually stick that sort of stuff online.

The most successful person I'm in touch with out of everyone got a scholarship and used to get dropped off by his Dad, who was a binman, in the council wagon.

was having that conversation with someone the other day Slippy. It's often the ones that don't do well at school or from more modest backgrounds that go on to be the most successful.

By:
I think you might have gone to the same school as my wife Slippy, 6 letters, "Ginnel runs from pole to pole"?

She was on a scholarship and was one of the poorest ones there, then she went on to marry me. Kind of proves doantwin2easy's point imo.

The only person that I knew from my school days who went on to make 'something' of himself was a well known gangster
![]() Last had contact with him when I was 17. You could have knocked me down with a feather when he was unmasked in the press. Was (died a few years back - not AT) a major player in Glasgow. |
