im abroad atm..
when i was in the uk i had 67MBs with about 16MBs upload 7ms ping. abroad i get 5Mbs with about .4MBs upload 100ms ping. guess which one is the best for gameing  |

oh btw i was with plusnet who are owned by bt.
and plusnet were fine before bt took over ..(not sure why the monoplolies commision hadnt looked into that takeover btw) |

Speedchecker says 30 and 16 at the moment but it doesn't feel like it.

worst thing they did was to introduce gateways to replace the old contention ratios.
now you get 30k connections upwards going through a single gateway instead of a max 50 the old way. no issues re surfing and even downloading. but its blx when they say they have prioritised voip and gameing packets. if yu are on a busy gateway you will get a worse service |

That Plusnet - BT tie up must be new-
As i was with Plusnet 3 years ago and they Were not connected at that time , as far as i am aware. |

Used to have issues with BT about every three months, before I discovered that the problem was I was being throttled,
which was an insult considering I was only getting, at best, half of what I was paying for! I jumped up and down and stamped my feet with the useless Indian call centre but then got a direct contact in Ireland. Haven't had a problem at all since getting "Infinity" which is somehow cheaper than before. Only thing is that "speed checker says I am getting 38.6 mbs but it often doesn't seem like that and they could tell you anything they want! First thing this morning I ordered "Infinity 2" which should give me upwards of 60 mbs. I'll report back on the 29th to advise if it is any better. I still don't follow how they can achieve any improvement, when the nearest fibre optic box is about 300 ms away, so it is going to wiz like lightning, and then effectively run into a "wall" of 48 year old copper! |

I have it and am very satisfied with it. However I wouldn't recommend it to anyone because I wouldn't feel comfortable about it.

80 down and 20 up here, consistently. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone on here though as I rather enjoy the "Help, I've got my toe stuck in the internet" type threads that keep popping up.
The only minor gripe is that they change your IP address far too often, I run a dynamic dns gadget on my PC that updates DynDNS.org with the address whenever it changes so that I can use a DNS entry to get to my home stuff (kenmasters.awesome.com), but if your PC is off for any length of time, the address will change and not be updated, so that won't work. You'd have to leave it on all the time. With Virgin, they'd change it maybe once a month or less, with BT it can be a few times a day. |

BT are an absolute nightmare to deal with when things go wrong. So on that basis, no.

I had BT infinity when they first brought it out (it was the best option at the time where I was) and had it until around 2 years ago. (think they started calling it BT Infinity 2 (which is sort of like an oxymoron)
Id recommend it if Virgin cable wasnt available, I have not really had problems with either. |

I'm glad this has been raised. Could someone explain to me how I can get their 'free' TV channels. Please don't recommend watching TV on the internet - it stops every two seconds.

My wife works for Plusnet in Sheffield, we get free fibre broadband something like 75/25. Free phoneline, free phone calls.... She gets free gym and canteen at work...guess what she uses the most ?! Also free BTSport, ESPN and Sky still want from September 61 quid a month fat ****$

Plusnet are great if you're using multiple bookie accounts as your IP address changes everytime you turn the router off/on.

it's just luck of the draw Spock, you couldn't get more rural than where I am but we were one of the first in the country to get it. We had it 6 months before a town the size of Burton did. |

Ive got bt ordinary broadband and its rubbish and i cant get the sports free chanell that im entitled to,i phoned them up about 20 times all to no avail.they once had me unscrewing a telephone point in my mams house when i had trouble with my broadband,the indian call people are nice talking to you but theve not got a clue how to fix things and are hard to understand.theve gone downhill fast when years ago britain had bt ,a name that was up there with winston churchill

I'm getting to the stage where technology seems to be getting quicker and quicker but from my experience BT have been okay. No problems with my computer. I can watch football and rugby on my TV and watch as much porn as I like.

I've had Infinity since it began about 3 years ago and very few problems, except for when a short power cut fried the Open Reach modem thingy - not BTs fault. Just checked speed (on WiFi), 66/15.
Remember those of you talking about Orange, Plusnet etc etc that you are using a BT line. If some berk comes along and sticks a pickaxe through it, you're down as well as BT! |

"Infinity 2" went live this morning.
Supposed to be getting 60-79 mbs but only testing at 51.3. Admitted I had several programmes running, so I will try again when the racing is finished. |
