It is widely stated that accidents in or around your home are the most common.
Trying to think back but there will be loads I can't remember just now.
The reason I'm posting this is that I had a close call yesterday.
Unloading the dish washer I had put just one tall stemmed wine glass on the worktop. and somehow caught the top of it with my right hand,
and it was falling left to right.
In a split second reaction I tried to catch it with my left hand, followed by my right, but inevitably it smashed into bits that were scattered everywhere.
I had come down on it with my right wrist and expected the worst but it looked fine.
Carried on with the chore till I saw blood dripping off my wrist, and running down my hand.
I was lucky that it was only a small cut but could have been much worse!
Going back a few years my chef's blowtorch exploded in a fire ball and I could smell burnt hair and skin.
Luckily my daughter arrived just after, and I knew from the look on her face that it wasn't good, so was taken to A&E to be sorted out.
Got away with that one as no permanent damage.
A good few years before I was cleaning the food processor and put my hand in the sink to pull the plug from the waste disposal,
and hadn't realised that the metal blade was still in there.
I got the cut of all cuts, that severed the nerve, and I was bleeding and hurting for England, so that was an ambulance job, with me holding my arm up to slow the bleeding.
There are some others for later, but what injuries have you guys sustained whilst at home?

The most often occurring accident in the home occurs when a BetFairian is watching the hoarse he layed at 1000 going 10 lengths clear in the final furlong. The sales of elasticated high waisted Chums khaki trousers surged with the advent of in running betting!

Diva...I am thrilled for you, as I was feeling a bit unchuffed before.....
Standing halfway up a stepladder when it suddenly tilted sideways and I was off and down to the ground. I got a bad knock on the shoulder, and whacked my head against the shed, but I was lucky as the chainsaw went in the opposite direction.
Nearly poked my eye out gardening, slid down a ladder retrieving ball from roof, fell of steps when they wobbled (wasn't drunk}. Cut my finger whilst slicing vegetables, burnt my hand removing cake from oven, spilt hot oil on wrist, bashed my head on wall (not accidently).
Went to put something in the bin in the kitchen, saw it was quite full and put my hand on the top of the rubbish and pushed downwards. Some **** had placed an opened tin in the bin with the top left standing up, nearly severed my middle finger at the second knuckle. Took 6 stitches to sort it.
Read in the paper a few months ago about a guy on his own found dead in his house, blood everywhere. Turned out he had severed an artery in his thigh from the stem of a broken wine glass in a bin liner he'd been in the process of taking out of the kitchen !
Facts....started to read your's and thought you were going to mention the drunken teenager who got out of bed and
fell through a mirrored wardrobe, and cut his jugular and bled to death!

On the description of accidents, they are unexpected occurrences.
A man somewhere in Norfolk died last week after falling into a grsin silo. This will go into the site accident book, but it wasn't an accident, it was lack of Health and Safety rules. There should have been a safeguard against it.
Another man (can't recall where it was) fell 22 feet from a pylon and died. Once again, not an accident. H&S regulations state that anybody working higher up than 2 metres, must wear a safety harness. It may seem daft at 2 metres and 1cm, but where do you draw the line?
The difference is that if the safeguards wre available but not used, in order to 'save time', they need not have died. So it could be proved that it was the workers own negligence, not the company, for not using them. Therefore their families may fail to get compensation.

Police now call the majority of road accidents, crashes. Accidents are occurrences that couldn't have been foreseen. Whereas most car crashes, are as a result of driver error.
FTSE seems high at the moment. I can't wait for the next stock market accident.
