I LOVE PLACEPOT BETTING
Infact its the only bet I do at the moment.
As I have a lot of time on my hands due to being off work due to illness for the last two weeks I have been using my local betting office (Betfred) just to get out of the house.
Last week I did a placepot and went home to watch the racing on TV, I had the first four up and was getting pretty excited, I just looked at my ticket and to my horror in the 5th race my selection said favourite I never do the favourite so I must have picked out a non-runner (I should of checked my ticket there and then) As I work in the industry I am aware that when you pick a non runner on a placepot slip in a betting shop it comes up as an error message saying so and so is non runner, and the operator should inform the punter, on this occasion the lazy bitch just overrode it and said nothing.(I ended up getting 4/6 but it could of cost me)
The following day I mentioned it to the manager and he said all staff get told to tell the punter if a non jigger has been picked, the till girl who was on duty with the manager said to me in a cocky voice it wasn't me, I always check all my slips.
Today I went in and just for a laugh I decided to write out a placepot at Newmarket with a definite non runner in the first race, I went up to the cocky bitch and handed her the slip, she then processed the bet and handed me the slip, I checked the slip right in front of her and said why did she not tell me that I had picked out a non runner, she was very embarrassed and said that she was not looking, I went a bit over the top telling her what I thought of her shabby customer service .
(ps obviously I cancelled my bet)

Maybe she should tell you the difference between "of" and "have."
My favourite bet by far and have had some good results. Clearly to get a good dividend you need to get a few favs out of the frame. I've used the draw to good effect in big fields and also four runner races are useful in increasing the dividend. Big decision is which meetings to cover as it's difficult to cover every meeting. Non runners are often a nuisance but sometimes being on the fav can often keep you in the running.
I do one of two perms when I have placepot
RACES 1 TO 4
If more than 8 runners, I leave out the fav and do the next 3 in the betting. If less thasn 8 runners, I do the first 3 in the betting.
races 5 and 6
I do the favourite
If all the well fancied horses get in the frame you can get quite a few lines running at once.
If there's a 4 horse race in the first 4 races, I do all 4, and hope the favourite is beaten.
What annoys me is getting to the last lag and having the favourite, but the field is reduced to 4 because of non-runners. You can't lay it for a place as Betfair still pay the first two, but the Tote don't.
My other perm is to do the 2nd and 3rd best in the first 5 races and the favourite in the last. If you get to leg 6 you can generally lay your horse for your stake back or more.
I got one freak result at Wolverhampton a few years ago, got to leg 6 and only 1 favourite in the frame in the first 5 races. I had mine in the frame with a load of rags. It paid over £700.

The numerous replys about taking on fancied horses favs etc,is exactly why a lot of smaller dividends are great value,looking to deliberately get favs beat for no other reason than that they are favs you'll do your cahoonas!!
This is true, with 30% winning and another 30% getting placed.
Winning consistently on placepots is just like any other race,purely form based the more competitive the race more picks and the stronger the form less picks with obviously more stake.For anyone taking on the really difficult cards and trying to have a formulated perm with a certain amount of picks and a limited stake you may as well do the lottery

I did a check last flat season for every meeting with my stock perm for 32 lines.
The outlay was something like £40k, for £1 lines, but the return was £83k, plus a lot of chances to lay off in the final leg when the favourite got short in running, but wasn't placed. £40k profit sounds good, but it's still only even money to your stake.
And that included the freak one at Chester when the pool was over £1 million. People on the horse forum couldn't believe their luck. Iirc it paid £6,000.
