Six people, including four Forest Gate men, have been jailed for more than 36 years for a violent racist attack.
Five men and a youth all pleaded guilty to grevious bodily harm with intent.
Two men sustained serious injuries and required hospital treatment following the attack on September 17, 2012.
Abu Bakr Mansha, 30, of Dunbar Road was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment at Inner London Crown Court.
Salim Jada, 32, of Green Street and Javed Patel, 29, of Upton Lane both received eight years.
Ibrahim Mohammed, 32, of Skelton Road was sentenced to six and a half years, while 30-year-old Ziber Kara, of Hereford Road, Bow, was jailed for two years.
Another male aged 17 was sentenced to 18 months detention and training order.
The two victims, aged 40 and 49 at the time, were assaulted by Mansha and the youth at a Tesco store in Bow.
Mansha followed them home after the attack to determine where they lived, and an hour later he and a group of friends returned to assault them once more, using weapons including a baseball bat.
One of the victims sustained a fractured skull and two broken wrists.
His Honour Judge Darling, who presided over the case, said: “Not only was there a religious aspect to this offence, but there was an undoubted racial element.
“Both prior to and after the attack, Mr Mansha is heard to use language that is foul, unacceptable and which reveals a degree of racial intolerance that is worrying.'

You're quite right. This is terrible reporting of a racist offence. We want to know what colour the victims are. Unless, of course, we are supposed to assume that they were white.
In fact, from what I read, I don't even know whether they were male or female...or even male AND female! You're quite right. The BBC report would have been much more detailed. |
