news from Berlin - the Brazilian Goal keeper has been awarded the iron cross with oak leaf clusters.

14 shots on goal and 7 goals is nothing unusual, have seen games with 6 shots on target and
5 goals eg. Quite simply goalkeepers rarely save any shots,. The main reason is goalkeepers
today are too tall. It is almost imopossible to be over 6ft and have good reflexes.

Add to this the fact that when young someone tall will be put in nets, not because of any natural aptitude. This will almost certainlymean that all keepers, including professionals, will be actually worse than someone selected randomly.

Tommy what i mean is the ratio of shots on target to goals, i can assure you that
the ratio was not really unusual, it happens many times, every weekend in the major
football leagues.

The average is about 3 shots on target for 1 goal, but really goalkeepers do not
actually save any shots..an exaggeration!

I bow to your knowledge if you're a stats man, lfc1971, but I still think it's more than remarkable that Germany managed to score 7 goals out of 14 shots on goal in a World Cup semi final against the favourite for the whole competition.

Only because it was the world cup, but then why not, this had to happen and will
have happened in the rest of the games as well.

I can go with you on, say, 3 shots producing just one goal in many league games per week, even 'top' ones - but to amplify that to 7 goals out of 14 shots in the semi final of a World Cup level is just staggering.

I'm in a very solid position now that Germany are in the final. In no way did I ever foresee that complete demolition of Brazil though but i was very confident that Germany would qualify.

Holland v Argentina tonight is a very interesting game and although I'm favouring Argentina to qualify I think it would be better for Germany in the final if Holland got through.

It pains me a bit but Argentina to win in 90 minutes is my bet. If I'm wrong then I won't be too bothered.

Slippy you said under 2.5 goals looks a given but the price was too short to play. I am guessing unders were around evens but I would quatify something which looks a given at a very high perecentage of happening and therefore very short odds. Can you not see the contradiction in that comment based. Maybe just a bad choice of words.

unders was approx 1.65

? paddletoe, the odds of unders was 1.66, it was too short for me but I did think it would be unders but didn't play that market as I said and I got that shout wrong but the bet was Germany to qualify and I called that right and did them to win before the tournament started. Nobody could have predicted that scoreline of 7-1.

Germany to qualify is the way forward here.
