How much do you pay for Sky subsciption?

I've negotiated twice with them and got my costs reduced each time.

I'll try the same.

They sometimes reduce their prices but don't inform existing customers.
When I queried this I was more or less told it was up to me to check and request the new tariff.

Just been trying to clarify a few things with SKY about offers. Your bill should be itemised enough to see where differences are ? (that's what I look at).

Including BT sport i pay roughly £104 a month(sky tv/phone/broadband).Have thought about changing to virgin but heard they are not the most reliable.

I've been with Virgin for years and had no issues with reliability.

£78.50 and they have always been the absolute worst to negotiate with.  Can't remember the last time I was able to do a deal with them whereas it always seems possible with just about everyone else if you phone up for a moan about prices/hint about going elsewhere.

Akabula main worry was internet as kept hearing that they were always having trouble with it going off.Cheers for the response.Something i will have to look into.

I called Sky TV today, without any fuss as long as I signed up for a minimum of 12 months, they knocked off 25% of my Monthly bill, saying after 11 years service. I was paying £48.50 per month and now reduced to £36.00. I said cheers now add Sky Movies for an extra fiver

Mrs is happy and I've saved £150 quid ish for 5 minutes work. Mt advice, get on the blower. Good Luck Howdi.

Now had an email after my reduction this week, saying Sky going to charge an extra £4 per month from September. They are getting greedy, again!

That's what hacked me off with them, and Virgin too, constant price creep, you'd phone up, threaten to leave, they'd grovel, offer a few quid off, then, every time, within the month there'd be another notice that prices were going up. Fk it, just cancel then.

Perfectly happy with YouView now, there's nothing I miss from Sky apart from a slightly quicker menu.

It's a box that combines a freeview recorder with all the online catchup services, BBC iplayer, 4OD, ITV catchup etc, all the programmes show in the guide, even historic ones if they're available online. As far as it's possible, you don't need to know if it comes through the aerial or down your internet hole. It's a bit clunky and occasionally unreliable but unless you're wedded to the 500 channels of shiite that Sky offer it's a very nicely executed and clever idea.

That's the cheapest I've ever got it but have never paid more than £55.

In order to get the good offers you really have to phone to cancel and be prepared to go through with it.

With so much competition for broadband its easy to negotiate that part, just research the cheapest deal elsewhere and they'll generally match it when you call to cancel it. If they don't then just move to the cheaper provider, you don't have to have the same tv and broadband provider, last time I looked EE had a deal that worked out at under a fiver a month.

Give 30 days notice on your tv subscription and wait till it's cut off (you can still receive freeview channels after the cut off and get a months free netflix if you need more). As soon as you're cut off they'll send you a letter offering 50% off all tv packs for 12 months, call them up and say you're tempted but it's still too expensive and can they do any better...they'll then offer you their current best discount, which at the moment is 60% but has been as high as 75% in recent months.

I've got 11 months left on my deal but to be honest even if they match it next year I may still leave...the technology is almost there now to make a subscription obsolete...a dvr, chromecast, netflix and a few reliable streams for sports...what more do you need really.

Basic package + attheraces ...£27.00 per month. Broadband & telephone with BT.  Quite happy with that really.

Forgot to mention - can't get Sky Broadband where I live anyway. (crap really in this day and age).

We don't have any subscription TV.

£17.40 for entertainment and sports. Previously had it half price for 12 months, but cancelled when it went back to full price. They offered it to me at half price for 12 months again, I cheekily said it was still too expensive and could they do any better.They said 60% off was the best they could do. So I have it at £17.40 per month.

had my sky+ box for 6 1/2 yrs now..freezes periodically or purportedly loses signal..if it does so when i'm taping u lose the recording.anyhow it's p*ssing me off so i rung up.spoke 2 a nice indian guy in india.getting a new HD+ box gratis but have 2 upgrade 2 family pckge 2 get the features,extra£5/mth but will get a 10% discount for 6 mths which offsets it 2 a degree.paying £49/mth at present 4 basically sports & docs,all i'm interested in really.i'll see how it goes but like ur style CUBAN.i'll give it 3 mths or so & do what u did.

Cut off. Think I had to pay a reconnection fee (can't remember how much that is was something minimal £5 or £10). Waited for a flyer to come through the post 3 or 4 weeks later offering me half price. I did have a message on my sky account (which I didn't see until I received the mailing), giving me the half price offer, so that may have been there for some time).

My advice would be to cancel sky, but keep logging on to your sky account on-line to see a 50% off offer, then use the on-line chat to see if you can get more off, if not settle for half price. If you don't ask, you don't get.

Is it possible to cancel SKY and take BT for the sport which will be cheaper or doesn't the box work without paying SKY?

Yep, the YouView box from BT is subscription free, if you want BT sport you either pay for it at the going rate (no idea) or take your broadband from BT, in which case they throw in BT sport for free (on top of the cost of the broadband, that is).

If you are going to sign up to BT I would sign up through quidco or topcashback to make it cheaper in the long run.

Thinking of ditching Sky and am interested in a You View box.

However I see it needs connecting to your router and for me that is several rooms away. What can I do about that? For Sky I bought a little Sky remote wireless box to sit by main Sky box and connects to the broadband. Could I use that or would I need to buy something else?

If you're having it installed by BT along with broadband they'll hum and haw and say they can't/don't/won't support that but it works just fine.

So I could buy a You View box for £140 and then connect it to broadband with that and the only ongoing cost is the broadband?

Pretty much. Those adaptors should be fine, speed is the thing, you'll only get about 1/10 of the quoted speed, depending on the quality of your home wiring, so the faster the better. The only thing with those is once you've plugged them in, you've lost that plug socket - With the pass-through ones I mentioned you can plug something else into the front of them.

Can anyone tell me if I cancel SKY but keep the box for the freeview channels, would I still be able to record (sky+) the freeview channels, and would I still get the HD freeview channels in HD ?

When I cancelled sky for a period of time, I was unable to record programs. Not sure about the HD side of things.

When I stopped subscribing to Sky+ HD they removed the HD access to any program, including free to air ones. I could not access programs I had previously recorded either. I continued with the minimum subs on one box as well. (non hd) The ombudsman would not take the issue up after showing a bit of initial interest.

You can get a card for free sat from sky (£20). I doubt if the sky+ would work & expect that they will disable that function and insist on a subscription.

Thanks Stow_judge. I'd forgotten all about Freesat ! I'd have to get an aerial installed for Freeview, but Freesat maybe a good option in my case.

Roger, As an alternative to the plugs you posted, I have used the following and found that they worked fine. Also, there is some good info on the site regarding different plugs/speeds/chipsets etc.
