Well, as ever, something went 'wrong' with my account on the computer and it wouldn't let me place a bet without me depositing some money!

So, I used the live chat site and got through to someone who decided the best thing I could do was to access the site from my mobile - which I did.

It took me a while to figure everything out (I've never used my mobile for anything on the internet before other than setting up a Gmail as I couldn't open an account on my computer for 3(Three) - don't ask me why (sigh) - but eventually the bet was placed.

If it hadn't been the chat women said I could phone Stan James and a trader would place it for me.

I'm very happy with everything I've dealt with them for today.

Pandora, it took about half an hour for me.

You have to hover over your account button as it doesn't show on screen - but there's a tab below that comes up saying '£5 free bet balance'.

I work in the betting industry and there is a plethora of free bets and offers, more so with the world cup being on and Royal Ascot next week.

In the last year we have seen all the major firms plus some new kids on the block offer what's called a "lost leader" to drag you in to place other bets, of these type of bets the majority are for new customers only, so be careful when opening accounts because ALL firms have the technology to stop the abusive free bets merchants and restricted customers.

i used their live support, the fiver only gets added within 2 hours of you adding a valid debit/credit card. From what I saw on the interface, that also means depositing cash.

A losing bet for me, unfortunately.

I've just had to double check on the Channel4 On Demand site that Fahey did say on the Morning Line this morning that Supplicant was his fancy in the 3.50 at York, after the favourite of Appleby's, as a good each way bet at the price - seeing as his Spirit Of The Law won at 14/1 at York in the 2.40.

I could only remember that the horse began with an 'S' when I went to place my free bet.

On checking - it was Supplement (who came 12th of 20) at 20/1 that Fahey tipped, which, when I'd looked at the form, seemed a terrific bet at the price. I'd got 28/1 with the free bet.

He never mentioned Spirit Of The Law at all!

Erse, it made me enter a card - which I did but didn't deposit any money.
I then kept being redirected to the sign up to deposit some money when I tried to place the bet.

That's when I used live chat and spoke to someone at Stan James about it.

I eventually was able to use the free fiver to place the bet without depositing any cash by logging into the account via mobile.

The SJ operative told me that I could call them on their telephone numbers for a trader to place the free bet if the sites don't work.

I have been informed from my mole that a free £5 bet (no deposit) will be offered by the same company each day for Royal Ascot.

If you've only set it up today (like I did) the money doesn't show on the main tab (which reads £0.00 if you haven't deposited) but is shown as a £5 free bet below it - when you hover.

I've just registered with Corals for the 4/1 guaranteed Argentina match odds for £10.

For others; as PugMunter said yesterday Corals are offering people who open an account tonight before the Argentina game guaranteed odds of 4/1 on an Argentina win.

You HAVE to use the hyperlink on the link below to get to it (or the few other places where it's being advertised).

Then, when you click on the Coral sign to register YOU MUST ENTER YOUR £10 in the betting slip for the offer before you sign up.

Then sign up.

Ovalman, I've been juggling in the numbers boxes for over an hour now and I still can't work it out!

My latest attempt gives me:

lay Argentina for £28.60 @1.35 - which will cost you £10.01 if it loses - and then provides green on Bosnia and the draw of £28.60 each.

I take it that's not right then?

It's always worked for me.

Remember this is a free bet, stake not returned. Just look up the lay odds on Betfair to find the odds.

Use my odds, as long as 1.33 is matched and you get 4.0 on Coral (make sure everything is decimal). They will work.

Lay off on Betfair @ 1.33 for £11.72 and you will win £11.13 regardless of the result.

Hi TT,as I understand it it's not a free bet, but you've had a tenner on the Argies at enhanced odds of 4/1 = £40 profit if Argies win, £10 loss if they dont win. Lay the Argies on here at 1.33 for £39, costing you £12.87, which will guarantee a profit of around £27 whatever the result (allowing for a bit of commission if the betfair side of the bet wins)

This was where you put your own ten pounds on but were guaranteed odds of 4/1 on Argentina if you were a new Coral customer.

Thanks for the calculator - but Muntz worked it out for me and it was lay Arg @ 1.33 for £37.59 - to make a profit of £27.59 whatever the outcome.

I play a few I-Poker skins that have 9 colours as a note. Yes it's my own handwriting but I wanted to use all 9 colours and hence my work in progress.
