Hope the dog can be re-habilitated.

Interesting, I thought cats were supposed to be utterly selfish and incapable of showing the kind of loyalty a dog might.

Some are. some aren't. There's no stereotype with cats. They're all different.

And you'll certainly get that sort of reaction from any cat who's got young kittens. They'll attack any cat or dog who gets too close.

I've got one cat who always follows me to the end of the road whenever I go shopping. I tell her to wait there and she flops down on the ground. It doesn't matter how many minutes or hours I'm gone for, she's always still there waiting for me when I return. And the reception I get is always every bit as enthusiastic as you'd get from a dog when you've been out for a while.

Man of many moods

We also have a cat that follows us for about 4 furlongs up until we reach the main road, sometimes he crosses with us sometimes he nips into a hiding place and no matter how long we are gone we her his meeow as we approach the same spot on the way back.

He follows us to the pub, my wife and kid to the nursery and he has hissed and hunched up at dogs as they approach us, but only when we have the kids with us.

Yet when in the house he doesn`t want to know us the ****!Laugh

There should be NO thought of rehabilitation for THAT dog. It is absolutely the worst example of what a dog should be. It made an unprovoked attack on a child.

No dog should EVER bite a puppy or a child! This should be instinctive. Puppies and children smell different to adults. This is their natural protection. This attack was unprovoked...in fact the dog sought out the victim. At first I thought that the dog attacked the pedal. Not so, it went straight for the leg and it didn't release.
That animal has no place on this Earth. Destroy it.

Laugh Sultan

A lot of dog owners in our society keep unsuitable dogs(pit bull type dogs), for the wrong reasons(to look macho or to fight))

in probably unsuitable environments

There have been a number of attacks on children.

Unfortunately for dogs(they have been a good friend to us) urban life is not always ideal for them.

You are probably right Naydam...anyway has to be put down.

That dog in the video wanted putting down if it let a cat run it off.
Report man of many moods May 15, 2014 4:40 PM BST

I would not go that far Dr Crippen

A cat will defend it's territory. But cat's have bee known to warn owners.

So may would have sensed a danger to this child, part of owners family.

I don't know I am not a cat psychologist. I do not think this was a fake.

I was brought up with  a cat about the house, still have one, a home does seem complete

to me without one.

Some people love him, some people hate them.

Report ebulGery May 15, 2014 9:17 PM BST
Territory is everything to a cat, often more important than their owners to them.

In the wild they would have to carve out their own territory in which to hunt. So it is a basic instinct to a cat.

In our modern urban world, a cat is not a bad companion animal.

Dogs cannot be left on their own, cats can.

Dogs must have daily walks, cats exercise themselves.

In fact all mammals and birds to an extent do.......

Cats are also relatively clean animals

they bury their droppings

often in neighbour's gardens I am afraid

cats cannot recognise human boundaries, only cat ones

neighbours should use buckets of water, hosepipe to deter them, if they are not happy

good manure though

A dog will always be the most loyal..because of its nature

It is a pack animal. it will defend its pack ...which is how it sees us

A wild cat is an individual animal...it sticks to us, because its think we are a parent

They are not the same...so don't expect the same

I had a dog once, he was everything a dog should be

I am not mobile enough to have one now,

Yeah but their widdle  stinks and they do it in the same place all the time, plus they don't always get a chance to bury their shytes and sometimes can't if it's a sloppy one.

I am a cat  person but it's rollocks to suggest they're clean just coz they do it in a neighbours garden.
Report ebulGery May 15, 2014 11:43 PM BST
I did not say that..

I said

often in neighbour's gardens I am afraid

I meant

the fact that they did bury their droppings, made them, relatively clean

as opposed to dogs, rabbits, birds, etc

urine is also used to mark cat boundaries

my cat has to do it in someone's garden, I live in a first floor maisonette

I wish he would not, I wish he would go in the woods or something
Report ebulGery May 15, 2014 11:45 PM BST

Unless they are used for breeding, all cats should be neutered, male and female
