Why don't we go the whole hog and do away with using commas, apostrophe's, full stops and question marks as well?
I'll tell you why, it will lead to anarchy. Writing in only lower case will be the thin edge of the wedge, you'll be trying to do away with paragraphs next and that will never do. |
By:
no paragraphs and apostrophes must stay, btw there should not be an apostrophe in apostrophes. shame on you slippy.
By:
Well spotted kenny, more care required please Slippy. You are normally excellent.
By:
cheers mate, are you in the goose tonight?
By:
Yes, but not till late. Have to pick my granddaughter from ballet class.
By:
how can you choose a granddaughter?

By:
I was hoping you wouldn't spot the missing word.

What made you do it slippy?

By:
slippy, write out 100 times
persistent perversity provokes a perfectly peaceful prefect to perpetrate particularly painful punishments |

I don't know Shanelee1966, I've got stuff going on and just got muddled up. The gardener is here, the dog hates him and is freaking out barking his nut off. I'm juggling bets and talking on the blower whilst eating a packet of crisps and drinking a beer.
It just happened, I don't know why and I'm feeling very ashamed of myself. It's certainly a forum low for me. ![]() |

By:
Kenny did you ever have Saturday morning detention back in the day? We used to get two hours for even minor misdemeanours and if you didn't turn up it was doubled next time.
By:
no, it was always 1 hour after school finished fortunately. i did my fair share of writing out the above lines. certainly 100 was enough to make your arm ache. a lesser punishment was to make you stand by the ink-well for half an hour some reason.

Mine was the last year you got the cane, which I got a few times but it never used to bother me. It was also the last year they did the masters versus pupils rugby match as well after a particularly obnoxious maths teacher got completely battered at the bottom of a ruck late in the second half. He looked like he had done three rounds with Lennox Lewis at the end of the game

Spellingandgrammar. That bit about "required please Slippy" could do with a couple of commas.

By:
Well done naydam. You passed that little test I set. Well done Sir.
By:
Spellingandgrammarchecker, was there really a need for three sentences there?
Those 13 words could quite easily be used in one sentence and would have saved the gratuitous use of capitals and full stops. Maybe that's something you need to think about in the future and work on. Here's how I would have phrased that reply. Well done naydam, you have passed that little test that I set you, well done Sir. |
By:
Why capital S for sir?
By:
how about i just sit on your couch all day and fart. after that, you'll have no need for words, simply air.
By:
Yeah it's a fair point Charlie but it just seems to be the way. For example, I would always say Sir Henry Cecil and not sir Henry Cecil out of a mark of respect I suppose. Sir always warranted a capital S, for me.

As soon as I see a post in cap locks, I refuse, on principle, to read it. In life, I have found that those attention-seekers who feel the need to shout at me all the time, generally have nothing worthwhile to say.
I derive an inordinate amount of pleasure from this, and there are no exceptions. Not even for any supposed `forum darlings`. If you can`t talk civilly to me, I ain`t listening. |
By:
As far as I know naydam hasn't been knighted. Not yet anyway! And I wish I hadn't posted because I'm getting paranoid about punctuation now. Are smiley faces allowed?
By:
i'm up it
By:
I think you mean "I'm up it". But I'm not sure if that should be in single or double quotes. On second thoughts must be double as the single quotes would be confusing 'I'm up it'.
By:
That's an assumption t make that naydam hasn't been knighted, we don't know whether he has or hasn't. I'm playing safe on here from now on after dewey savaged me yesterday
![]() |
By:
I was careful to say "As far as I know naydem hasn't been knighted". Not that he doesn't deserve it. Hope you are ok after being savaged (i wanted to say after your savaging but it didn't sound right).

By:
OP : ....and realising at times you've typed a whole sentence in capitals and have to start again....
On a Mac you can select text and use Edit/Transformations to change all uppercase to lower case....sweet ! |
By:
agree with you kenny. sometimes i will write an entire paragraph only to realise afterwards that the capitals haven't registered because a morceau of pork scratching has found its way under the shift key.

There was some guy on the TV recently from some organisation trying to get English redone so the spelling is more consistant with how it's pronounced. If you were starting again I'm sure you'd do it differently, but it's never going to happen, is it?
Why waste hours of your valuable life on something that'll never happen?? (said the judge when he gave me the restraining order for propositioning Holly Willoboobies ![]() ![]() ![]() ) |
