It's all about opinions, but for me, Raging Bull takes a bit of beating.

The Life Of Brian is a 10/10, if I could only see one film ever again it would be that one.

Other 10/10's would be There Will Be Blood, Fargo and O Brother Where Art Thou?

When I watched dumb and dumber for the first time, on a plane, aged 16 with my little sis next to me we were absolutely howling with laughter, tears in our eyes.  I think the other passengers actually found it endearing rather than annoying.  Dont think I have ever laughed as much before or since.

The bit where he has the snow ball fight with the fit girl i thought I was gonna self combust.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't  seen this film although David Lean,is one of the top three directors that has ever lived. He directed Hobson's Choice, a gem of a film. Thankfully I have  Lawrence on record. Will watch it soon.

The Life Of Brian
There Will Be Blood
Fargo
O Brother Where Art Thou
Some Like It Hot

What about Lebowski SB I watched that because you raved about it if I remember right.
Report SlippyBlue April 15, 2014 11:17 PM BST
I've downgraded that to a 9 Dobbo, as I have True Grit (2010).
Report Dobbo April 15, 2014 11:22 PM BST
There was so much to like in Let there be Blood but in the end I found it disappointing. My favourite Coen at the moment after Fargo is Burn After Reading.Never imagined Brad Pitt as a comic genius
Report SlippyBlue April 15, 2014 11:35 PM BST
Lots of people have said the ending was a disappointment Dobbo and basically unnecessary as Daniel Plainview had by then broken the priest mentally anyway without what was to become of his final demise. I don't disagree with that to a point but for me the film was a masterpiece and the best of recent years.
Report sideshowbob April 15, 2014 11:41 PM BST
what was the one with brad pitt playing a writer?

defo not a 10, but i want to watch it again. cant remember what its called.

Depp and Pitt are brilliant actors, if they werent so ugly they would get far more recognition.

Snatch and lock stock both solid 9s for me.  Perhaps nine and a halfs.

CASABLANCA...seems so grown up compared to now, Bogart and Bergman almost mythical
creatures, a masterpiece really.

THE GODFATHER 2...predictable but just so good, Pacino as the young Michael Corleone magnificent.

PLANES TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES...very funny with an underlying pathos, could watch it every Christmas.

Can't think of a single film I would give 10 out of 10 - and what are the criteria, anyway?
Report sideshowbob April 16, 2014 6:50 PM BST
cant be doing with the shawshank redemption. and yes, i know its illegal to not like it. its ok but a bit meh. the green mile is the quintessential prison movie in my house. even if it does go on for an eternity and have a few thoroughly bizarre scenes. not quite a 10 though. 8.7 or 8.8 i reckon. and escape from alcatraz. which is about an 8.2

honourable mention for the stallone movie lock up. it may be full of cheese and stallone isnt exactly known as a great actor, but its a damn good movie. one of those decent movies, like the postman with kevin costner, that the critics unfairly savage just to appear sophisticated.
