It's a waste of time seeing the doctor with migraine.
They'll probably make it worse.

I'm afraid you're stuck with it.

correct Dr Crippen, but was it a migraine,.... ah!

Classic migraine with zig zag lines and semi-circles running across your eyes. That can last up to three quarters of an hour in severe cases. Them vomiting in some cases.
Then the headache starts which will put you out of action completely.
Disorientation as well.

That's not all. People who get severe migraines often suffer chronic exhaustion in between headaches with depression as well which can also be quite nasty.
There have been many cases of suicides amongst migraine sufferers.

... with zig zag lines and semi-circles running across your eyes...

Some people, me included, only suffer these symptoms. They`re called `Ocular migraines`. Mine tend to last no more than 10 minutes, and keeping my eyes closed helps end them.

I wouldn't wish one on my worst enemy.

Thank god it's over a year since I had one.

Mine also starts with the zig zag lines and semi-circles running across your eyes and it's off to bed to wait for the inevitable vomiting.

Worse one I had was about 10 years ago and lasted four days.

Have you ever had any treatment for that timbuctooth?

The best thing with that is to simply put up with it.

Anybody on here know of anyone who's stopped their migraines through excluding certain foods from their diets?

Or even know of anyone who's ever attempted this approach?

No, Dr Crippen, I self-diagnosed it from the internet, haven`t even seen anyone about it. Ocular migraine is, physically, pain-free, so I just Thank God I haven`t developed more full-on migraines. In fact, I feel a bit of a fraud posting about it as, while it is a form of migraine, the pain-free bit sets it quite apart from `proper` migraines

I used to suffer a lot from migraines, but all of a sudden they stopped. Mine were always on the right side of my temple behind my eye. Normally they would last several hours and I would have to put my head on a pillow in a dark room. I never found migralief tablets very good. Co codamol tablets were a better pain relief.

I get migraines, usually 2 or 3 per year. I find that I often get them after irregular sleep patterns, this is a well-known cause. If I've had a bad night's sleep I will often get one a day or 2 later

I suffered with severe migraines as a child and they were at their worst around my puberty.
Truly horrendous and I pity anyone who suffers with them.
Ocular migraines were technically the ones I had, althouth there is very little between severe ocular and hemiplegic, which are the most serious type.
In fact I went through all of the worst symptoms of ocular periodically as one aspect blended into the next part, until I was completely debiltated, unable to see, speak or understand, they were effectively recoverable strokes as my specialist used to refer to them as.
The only difference with hemiplegic was that sufferes of these have muscle weekness also...I never had that, but I had waves of pins and needles and numbness that was it its worst as it went down my throat.

If people suffer muscle weakness also then they really need to see a specialist as the chances of them suffering a real stroke is much higher.

There are a number of triggers that suffers can relate to, mine turned out to be the 'calcium channel', where increased amounts of calicium set me off, which included too much consumption of milk, cheese etc.

I get migraine auras (without headache), approximately 1 per month and have done for about 10 years now; the first one really freaked me out but I'm fortunate that over those years I've only had one headache that I considered to be a migraine. If it was I really do pity those that get them regularly... they really suck!

Rarely get them now Delta.
They tend to be years apart and over within a few hours.
But then I never eat cheese or drink milk anymore

On medication.
I used to have to take a syringe everywhere I went in this injector pen loaded with a powerful spring.
Scared the s hit out of me and it was the last resort, Id have to fire it into my leg, horrible experience but was the only thing at the time that brought relief.

Now things have moved on, I believe the class of drugs that tackle migraine effectively are called triptans, they interfere with serotonin levels and force the blood vessles to widen which is a common effect of migraines.

I have Imigran (a product name) but I think they might be called something else now, they were about 10 quid a tablet, but worth it. If migraines sufferers go down this sort of treatment you really need to consult a doctor first...they will relieve your migraine but they can be dangerous due to the nature of how they work.

think that's really "cluster headaches" dustybin - utter agony, I had them for years.  Surprised I didn't kill myself with the overdoses of paracetamol.  Sanigran? I think were the pills I took.  They didn't actually (for me) stop the headaches, but a couple of paracetamol actually worked when I took them and after a couple of weeks the episode subsided.

Like you I have had an episode for years.

Anyone who suffers serious migraines should read The Migraine Revolution by Dr John Mansfield if they can get it.

Dr Mansfield is/was? the founder of the Burghwood Clinic in Surrey.

In his book he dismisses conventional treatments for migraine, which are at best ineffective, then shows how to determine if food is the cause of the patients migraines, which it usually is.
The routine for isolating these food allergies is well established, and cost the determined patient nothing except for inconvenience.
