Life Is Beautiful is very very good.

Robocop (the original one) was pretty good, and Shawshank too.

Not a big fan of watching a film and reading sub-titles for a couple of hours, but Dragon Tattoo and Let The Right One In were both excellent films.  And the only foreign film I seen last year was Blue Is The Warmest Colour, it's  a 3-hour take on a young French woman’s sexual awakening when instead of her boyfriend she falls for a slightly older girl. So a 3-hour film with sub-titles about 2 lesbians, it's such a damn good film and the 2 girls are just brilliant. 

There is one long extended sex scene - certainly wouldn't have wanted to see that in Brokeback Mountain - but in this film it is so strong to the story and their intense relationship.  It is a really good film.

Goodbye Lenin! except it's 11 years old now, so doesn't qualify.

Le Cop is my fav foreign film, and also the best film about gambling I've seen.

"Kokuhaku" or " Confessions" is magnificent.

One of my all time favourites.

I've just watched Tomboy, an interesting little French film,it was on BBC4 last week.

It's about a girl who pretends she's a boy.

Great performances from the child actors, especially the little girl who played the main character's little sister.

Another vote for The Vanishing, originally titled Spooloos. You won't see the twist at the end coming at all.

It might not be the best foreign film but Lilya 4-Ever is probably the most powerful film I have ever seen

bigH, I`d guess I was being freaked out by it the very same night as you! And here we are, 20 years later, discussing our one and only viewing of it. Surely, an indication of how powerfully memorable that final scene is.

Think it was late on Beeb 2 , a nauseating ending to a wonderful film ......without the feelgood naff ending of the yank copy.
