Ffs ,just watched episode 1 . What a superb start (only a thousand times better than the overhyped Broadchurch) .....but no new episode until next Wednesday.
Watched episode 2 for a second time. Series 1 was very good , but so far this series is another level altogether. Keeley Hawes is fantastic in this , her turnaround of being questioned was quality .......mind she must be involved in the crime , her character is far too clever , devious and never caught out.
Can't wait for episode 3.

There does seem to be an awfully long gap between episodes.
I see Jed Mercurio, under a different name, wrote Cardiac Arrest, the best ever medical series. Blimey -- that was 20 years ago. I must be getting old.

tbh I'm now worried it's getting a bit far-fetched, even as conspiracy theories go: top copper, prisoners, screws, and the missing kid. Still the best thing on telly right now, though.
My disappointing suspect was not in it this week -- I was worried because it seemed to be a Star Trek "red shirts" set-up: a character getting a lot of screen time for no apparent reason.

Not too long to wait now folks ....Ms Denton is behind it without a shadow of a doubt imo. But I have an odd suspicion that the police officer she did not kill in the car park is her accomplice .....we shall see.

As with a good novel , the ending is always by far the hardest part.
And so it is that Line Of Duty Series 2 ending is slightly tepid.
I don't think you can create a character as intelligent , devious and sharp witted as Lindsay Denton and then .......she gets copped with loads of dodgy money in her house .....really .

Just one question .... where did the CCTV of Mike Dryden and Carly Kirk come from ?
He never left the reception with her as she got driven off by the baddies after Dryden caught his BJ short when he saw Denton watching?
Not much gets past the CCDA

She did drive off with Dryden before the BJ and Denton followed them. Carly then runs off after getting beaten up by Tommy.
It was pretty obvious that Dot was the Caddy and was involved in the conspiracy. It's all there in the final 2 minutes of the last episode of the first series.

brilliant series, but agree with sixtwosix to portray the central character as so sharp & smart then get caught out with bundles of cash in the bedroom was a poor ending.

Yes, very poor ending. Would be better to have her get away with it -- we'd already seen in the flashback she was guilty -- she agreed to help but changed her mind at the last minute when she veered off the agreed route.

It was definitely amateur hour when it came to writing the ending. Up until then it was one of the best shows I have seen all year.
I mean why would you plan the killing of a protected witness which also involved the murder of three coppers. I would have been four murdered cops if Denton had not been so lucky. She was going to get clipped too. The opening scene was brilliant in episode one but the plot had so many holes when you looked back.

You kill four coppers in order to get someone else. Could you possibly draw more attention to one murder? I don't think so.
Surely it would be a lot easier to make a phone call to one of the criminals the super grass was going to inform on. No possible reason you would need to kill four coppers in the process other than it seeming to provide a good opening scene. There were some brilliant scenes in the series but the ending devalued them when you looked back on everything and nothing added up.

paddletoe - Since you obviously missed the final episode. This will help.http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/review/a558882/line-of-duty-episode-6-review-what-were-the-final-twists.html
Here is what I think we learned from the flashbacks.
1) Prassad, Cole, Dot Cotton and the Limping Guy were the original bent coppers 2) Dryden got Denton pregnant, made her have an abortion, then dumped her -- she is "woman scorned" 3) Dryden backs out of deal with Gnagster/Supergrass/Protected Witness (G/S/PW) 4) G/S/PW (and/or his ex-colleagues) try to blackmail Dryden by setting him up with under-age Carly 5) Dryden is about to get **** when he sees Denton, who is stalking him, and throws Carly out of car 6) Dryden takes wife's speeding points to establish alibi in case Denton reports him + Carly 7) Carly is beaten up by G/S/PW, runs away and is never seen again 8) Villains murder Carly lookalike and bury her under garage to increase pressure on Dryden who was last person to see "murdered Carly" alive 9) Villains decide to spring G/S/PW 10) Cotton bribes Akers to set up G/S/PW for ambush 11) Akers recruits Denton to help 12) Denton changes mind at last minute and veers off agreed route 13) Prassad & Cole (or villains) see this on tracking device, panic because they think they've been betrayed by G/S/PW who has cut a new deal with witness protection, so kill everyone (bar Denton)
And the rest we saw over the first five episodes.
The trouble is there is no reason for Akers to have involved Denton. She already had control over G/S/PW and could have moved him anywhere or directed the bad guys to the safe house. Still, even if the finale made not a lick of sense, it was a bloody good first five episodes.

^agreed - ending seemed rushed and I did n't really like the 'two months earlier' retrospective.
In other news, Steve needs to give his head a shake, dunno what he was thinking - postponing a rematch with Jolly Rogerson for a night on the lash with misery guts Kate.

Agree that the last episode felt rushed. We didn't see enough of the investigation and finding of new evidence while the action lingered on the relationship between Denton and Cloughy (probably deliberate in a lot of ways to fool the viewer into thinking it was true) and then the use of flashbacks in the last 20 minutes to fill in all the gaps just felt unnecessary. It would have been better in that case to not explain everything and leave us guessing. Great series but the pacing slipped at the end.

Firstly, what I want to know is who took the pics of the bj - it wasn't Denton as she was not in the right position relative to the car?
Secondly, I think the performance of Keely Hawes was utterly captivating, she genuinely stole every single scene in which she appeared. And anyone who bleats on about the BBC licence fee should go **** themselves... regardless of the weak plotting in the final episode, this was top tellying by the beeb, imo

@MisterBadger -- the bj blackmail pics were taken by Prassad on behalf of the baddies in order to blackmail Dryden. We saw Prassad at the drinks do where Carly (who was not officially working there, even though dressed as a waitress) was introduced to Dryden. The pics were later found in Prassad's possession.
Denton was stalking Dryden after he ended their affair (and after her abortion). As Carly went down on him, Dryden looked out of the car window and saw Denton, and panicked, which is why he threw Carly out of the car and then took his wife's speeding points in order to provide himself with an alibi (ie he must have been wherever the speeding offence took place) in case Denton reported seeing him with Carly.

That's what I thought ramruma, but it's stretching credibility to think that denton & prasad would not have seen each other at the scene... let alone dryden acting like that in a public place in broad daylight - I mean, surely he would at least drive her to a remote location first

@MisterBadger -- Prassad might have seen Denton but presumably would have been trying to hide so he was not seen by Dryden. However, I think the idea was that he did not see Denton and thus concluded Dryden was spooked by seeing him (Prassad) taking photos, so the blackmail plot was nixed and they decided to kill G/S/PW (and Akers etc) instead.
Really the whole thing was a bit messy, as if writer Jed Mercurio spent so much time on the twists and turns that he lost control of the plot, so we got this rushed finale with most of the rationalisation in a series of flashbacks. And as you say, we also are asked to suspend disbelief slightly too often.
One thing I'm in two minds about is DS Steve Arnott as a ladies man. He isn't conventionally handsome and often (perhaps due to makeup and lighting) seemed a bit shabby and grubby, so it is hard to see why women threw themselves at him. On the other hand, those serial shaggers I've known also fit this bill (apart from not being clean) so who knows?

Agree with general consensus-great series, poor ending. Scenes with Neil Morrissey seemed there just to re-emphasise link with series one. No proper explanation about the full reasoning for the original 'hit' & where the money came from. Who was going to benefit financially (& how) for Tommy's murder? Was it just so Akers & Dot could claim Tommy's share of whatever they were all involved in? Having said all that, look forward to series 3.

Not sure how often I have made a point of saying the final episode was a let down on a British drama but if I have said it once I have said it a dozen times on here over the years, what is slightly different with this " finale " was that it wasn't a finale as such, the finish was done with a further series planned, saying that it was a bit of a let down but no that bad in the context that it was an excellent series & good enough to look past that last episode & say overall it was great TV.

The more I think about it , it was actually terribly disappointing .
The money found in the house , The handy tracking device shaped branch , The ease which she took the bribe off Akers with no concerns of being set up , Using O'Neill's log in which he knew she could ....really he would not lock his machine or change his password.
We did not need the story of Lindsay Denton being finished off in a nice box with a bow on it , this was not a formulaic USA 45 minute crime drama. It was far more likely that despite their suspicions they would not be able to snare this cunning fox.
Like school days when your teacher(not these days of course) would throw your homework back to you if he felt you had done poorly ....'Mr Writer have another go and do it properly'

@sixtwosix -- yes, and it is not clear how moving the tracking device helped Denton. If she'd left it where it was, Denton could have told AC12 that it proved she was not the "inside man" else there'd be no need to track her car.
And while taking the money from Akers after thirty seconds' thought was stupid, although in story terms, Denton needed the cash for her mum's care home, it beggars belief that Denton -- who clearly knew Akers was guilty -- tried to frame Dryden (even allowing for the abortion).
