To be honest, a helluva lot of totally innocent, normal people are suffering extreme hardship at this time. It's not crisis that we can just ignore. The refugees need help...and they need it now!
I only hope that the aid goes towards what it is meant to provide, and not into some 'administrator's pocket. ![]() I suppose sometimes you just have to do what you feel is right, instead of waiting to see what everybody else does. Perhaps the 'others' might act by our example and get their communal finger out! I've seen half-billions wasted upon worse things. |

Makes you proud to be British imo.

They despise Britain, it is morally wrong to be giving aid to these countries.

11,000 men women and children tortured and murdered
Attack all military bases now and set up no-fly zone.....Russia won't do anything....Sochi would be cancelled |

11,000? that's the tip of the iceberg

stewartyb, remember there are millions of refugees fleeing from the most vile of humanity (see NL and co). And think back to when most of the world turned away from the persecuted jews of Nazi germany, including the cowardly FDR who turned the fleeing Jews back to Germany.
the UK economy will be less able to afford its quota of Special Brew, but at least it won't be France, or Germany, or an FDR Mini-Me USA surrender monkey. |

(see NL and co).
You've lost me there polybot. Could you enlighten me please. |
By:
the vast majority of the refugees are victims of a parasitic minority, who seek to stir up division, misery and hatred to achieve their own personal ends, or the ends of their masters.

Still no clues as to why the UK is sending more money than the rest of the EU put together??
By:
perhaps Britain is a more caring society ...
By:
they are taking it off our sick/poor and giving that money to other countries.
By:
perhaps Britain is a more caring society ...
not to be confused with Cameron's Big Society which devolves caring for the British people from the government. |
By:
perhaps Britain is a more caring society ...
So, every time there's a civil war anywhere in the world, it's a case of, fck this for a caper, phone the UK, plenty mugs reside there. |

When I think about it, why do we keep pumping millions into India and Pakistan every year? Both are nuclear powers and of course India has it's own obligatory space programme..
By:
our population is about a 3rd of say Pakistan, so we should send a third of what they do in aid.
its time we kept our noses and money out of these muslim countries and let them get on with it, all they seem to want is civil war of some description |
By:
it's all guilt money
By:
The refugees are on there way as I type. Five hundred......for starters..
By:
I only hope they house them next door to the ones who brought them here.
By:
It's never the do-gooders who have to put up with them.
By:
Aye, just the do-badders and do-nothings.
By:
If it's right to take in a few hundred, then why not a few thousand or a few million?
It's the same principle. Then take a hard look at Africa. How many millions of them would we have to take before our bleeding-hearts start to feel better? |
By:
And when the 500 arrive they will be given a home, Advice on the benefits they can claim, Given money to fit the house out with funiture including a 40inch tv and free tv licence. Plus they will be exempt from the bedroom tax because they are our guests.
By:
They tell us that their coming here will be a temporary arrangement.
That won't happen. Once they're here they'll be here to stay. Make no mistake about that. |

As your unlikely to listen to me or more rational posters, listen to your own leader Nigel Farage who last month said Britain must honour its international treaties and take in Syrian refugees.
The US has already committed 1 billion pounds and the UK some 600,000, and while a country like Germany only 200,000 - one third of British. Germany has committed to take in 10,000 Syrian refugees, we so far are committed to take in 0. We know we are going to need 7 million more immigrants by 2050 so to do our international duty now is in our long term national interest and many will return home anyway when the conflict is over. The whole world turned a blind eye to what was happening in Germany in the 1930's and refused to take in significant numbers of Jews attempting to flee, resulting in mass slaughter. We must not make the same mistake again. Get on to your local MP and tell him/her to get their finger out and demand Britain commits! |

northernlad your a strange one alright.
By:
You do realise maleuk, Crippin, stewarty, that your attitude and cheerleading to prevent a a life line away from human disaster that will not have the slightest effect on your everyday life, will in fact help sentence innocent people to death.
You think that is a normal way for a human being to behave? |
By:
northernlad, no matter how much you try and help they will continue to blow each other up. If you want to stop this madness going on in the muslim world they have to change how they think about human life. So you should focus on how you would do that.
Untill that happens there is nothing we can do, just papering over cracks. And bringing such like minded individuals into a country they seem to hate? That is just raising tensions in this country. |
By:
You could have said that about Northern Ireland in the 70's, 80's.
By:
its not the 70's or 80's is it. And as far as I remember it NI didn't need billions in aid, didn't kill hundreds of thousands of people or create 10's of thousands of refugee's.
Once again your argument is just a very poor one, ill thought out and of no comparison, so not sure why you mentioned it really, I can only presume you are of relatively low intelligence. Only way to solve these cival wars as mentioned is to alter their attitudes, which you have no answer for. |
By:
Syria didn't have the British or any other Army to keep the peace as in NI, and has a population of 22 million, considerably larger, so obviously the conflict has gone further, into civil war, and on a far greater scale.
You seem to be of the opinion that only Muslim country's have periods of social unrest leading to civil war. Syria, Egypt, Libya were all relatively peaceful for decades until the recent Arab spring uprisings. We only have to look at the Balkans to see that European Christian countries are not immune from quickly going from civil unrest to civil war. So your point that its specifically Muslim countries who find themselves in these desperate situations needing international help is not born out by historical fact, is it? |

Yes they should stop doing it, but they seem to persist in blowing up and killing each other.

Dont forget the numbers we have blown up and killed in the Middle East lfc1971
If we insist in invading other countries, I have little sympathy for us My simpathy is with them, we have left bloody chaos out there, and we can't even stop it now.......Syria is out of control Who do you think is the one country who has benefited from all this.....ISRAEL, they fund ISIS. All this appalling slaughter has been done for them, nobody else |
