the one with the gypsy where he nuts him at the start is magnificent. lenny proceeds to stamp on his head.

that was one big mistake by the gypo, Roy Shaw took a savage beating but to be fair was about 15 yrs older and 6 stone lighter, apparantly Roy beat him in there 1st fight but theres no video of it.Roy was one tough cookie for his size.

I read both their books years ago, very good reads.

I think 'pretty boy' would win off level weights!

some of the irish fights on you tube are hilarious,  Lenny and Roy would have leatherd them, wheather they would have got away alive though with their winnings is another matter.
check out Paul Sykes on You Tube, a local villain from Wakefield near me, ex pro boxer and complete nutcase in his time, sadly all 3 are no longer with us.

I don't think Paul Sykes will go down in history as any sort of folk hero, quite the opposite imo.

The so called Guvner twice got smashed inside a round by someone (I think it was Cliff Fields). He was big but he wasn't all that. Any decent heavyweight boxer would have gone through him like a dose of salts. Shaw was a blown up middleweight well into his 40's when they fought.

I tried to read McClean's book, it was facking awful, talk about a boring read, it was such a load of **** I couldn't even finish it
Report Eeternaloptimist November 18, 2013 10:46 PM GMT
It was Cliff Field and if anybody remembers their boxing from the late 60's early 70's Cliff was smashed up twice by Billy Aird who was a decent enough boxer but hardly world class.

All villains, first class horrible cants and as thick as concrete.

I am afraid I believe that it is hard to find the truth behind many of these fights, youtube or otherwise.  Unless of course you know people who were there, but they are largely lying criminal coonts too.  So in summary nobody knows, except a very few, who are dishonest anyway.

First time I have ever heard of "The Guvnor! but just watched the fight against shaw. He had definitely fast hands. One of the posters on the video reckoned Shaw would have won a scrap outside the ring and I think he would have judging by the way he would not go down and then when he did and he came around he wanted to go at it again. I think if most people took just one of the 50 or so punches Shaw took before he went down they would have been out spark and whenever they woke up their clothes would have been out of fashion!

paddletoe

He was a big fella so he must have carried some beef behind his blows but he couldn't really punch. Every single one of his shots were arm punches. He never turned the shoulder or pivoted into a single shot.

How would they have got on against John Bindon who had the fastest hands he'd ever seen according to John Sewell the actor? Probably too big and powerful for him.
Report sideshowbob November 19, 2013 1:36 AM GMT
russell brand showed a clip of that on ponderland. episode called crime. for some reason that episode is pretty much the only one not on youtube. it says "not available in your country due to copyright" yet the other episodes play fine. weird.
