I can't believe the BBC showed that tonight. The BBC can expect a fatwa soon. Have they learned nothing from the Danish Cartoons furore? I wonder if they'll take it off Iplayer.

this program is a great example of one obvious problem with the bbc which is that its multicultural agenda is often considered more important than the quality of the content. but because that criticism can often be considered to have racist undertones, which of course it doesn't, it's often ignored.

this show is sh1t. it's painfully unfunny. not only is it childishly unsophisticated, it often seems to forget the punchline. the canned laughter is desperate.

but that's ok. lots of sh1t shows get commissioned. it's not as bad as coming of age which is the worst piece of comedy ever made.

but this show was written by an unknown unestablished nobody. yes he had a run on the radio, but that does not make him a great comic actor or writer.

it's clear he's neither.

this program was commissioned directly into a primetime slot on BBC1.

nearly all new comedy is shown on BBC3 first, the exception being stuff from established writers or  - that Ben Elton excrescence (the Wright Way) being a good example. But new comedy from unknown writers NEVER gets commissioned straight to bbc1 let alone a Friday night prime time slot.

I couldn't care less if this was on BBC3 and if ratings and reviews justified it but it should be nowhere near primetime.

Do you think it would've been commissioned if it had been written by a caucasian?
I have an idea for a sitcom about some women who are in niqabs all the time. A kind of moslem Birds of a Feather if you will.
But I wonder if the BBC would think it was inappropriate on a number of levels, and that it wasn't for me, a whitey to be writing that sort of thing.
Report sideshowbob October 26, 2013 1:59 PM BST
i dunno, how many white sitcoms are written by non-whites?

how many sitcoms set in liverpool were not written by carla lane??

If Jigsaw had me chained up in a room and to be freed I had to watch back to back episodes for 24 hours of Russell Howard's Good News or Citizen Khan (possibly his most vile and evil scenario yet...and he's even removed the saw so you can't even hack yourself to death...) I would watch Citizen Khan.

The canned laughter department at the BBC is strong and heavily unionised. That is why you find that they provide the laughter to all BBC comedy's.
