PEOPLE WHO HAVE HUGE WEDDINGS

Got to go one better than the last one. Why not if you can afford it? Keeps a lot of people in jobs. Caterers, florists etc. A lot of cultures have enormous weddings because the gifts are in cash giving the married couple a financial boost.

You feel sorry for them? You're the one standing outside in the rain. Never mind, light up a Strand!

If they can afford it then fine. If they can't but do it anyway and then start moaning that they are priced out of the housing market then errrmm..

If people cared as much about their marriage as they did their wedding, the world would be a happier place.

Agreed SF. Had a small wedding (40 guests) now married 42 years

Being an unashamed romantic I must admit to liking a good wedding.

James (my son) had eighty guests (not counting the serial gate crasher, who was also kicked out of the other ceremony, on the same day)

Just so nice to have family, and friends, looking so good, and enjoying themselves in the warmth of the family!

Then,six years later, it's all gone t!ts up, with a bitter divorce, and one is left wondering if it was all a waste of time, and money!

Eldest daughter was trying desperately (and misguidedly) to bring forward her ceremony, so that her mum could be there!

Unfortunately that didn't happen and she was married, in Las Vegas, on the 9th of September 2001 (does that ring any bells)?

Fortunately there was not a big family spend, as they split just two years later!

A mate of mine (poorly paid job) went £20K in debt to fund his only daughter's wedding.

Before the wedding he said he had always wanted his daughter to have a big no expense spared 'Do', walking her down the aisle would make him feel so proud etc etc e

The marriage lasted all of 12 months - He was still paying the loan off 5 years later.



It was never a good idea to get him talking about the subject - He'd get quite angry and worked up just thinking about it!

The travelling community always seem to have rather large ones, they must have very well paid jobs.

They must do Ken but unlike the rest of us they are exempt from paying income tax and N.I. contributions so that leaves a bit more disposal income for such lavish occasions.

I see, sort of like Vodafone, Amazon or Tesco then, they probably pay all of their honest income in royalties to head-office which is based somewhere like the Cayman Isles, it's these loopholes the Chancellor needs to be closing.

If a marriage lasts less than 2 years I ask for my present back or money equivalent.

wouldnt have one. the type of woman that likes a big wedding, is the type of woman that is a fickle fantasist. within a few years youll be divorced and she will be having another big wedding with some other mug.

its one of the first things i would find out before getting involved, if shes one of those id be out of it quick

to be honest women usually bring it up very quickly i find. usually you get the "i dont believe in marriage" or "my friends getting married, maybe it will be me one day". women always talk about themselves, you cant shut them up
