The Connel bridge over the Falls of Lora, providing a dramatic sight when the tide goes out.
The nearby Clachan bridge the ,so called 'Bridge over the Atlantic' to the Island of Seil is another favourite of mine.

Great shout with The Connel Bridge. There's a whirlpool created as well I'm sure And I got told it was unique but can't remember the reason why. Does anybody know? I've tried googling but no joy.

akabula,I used to work at a marine biology laboratory a couple of miles from Connel. We would go out on a converted trawler on a regular basis to collect samples, mostly in Loch Etive and often passed through the Falls as the tide was beginning to drop.Exciting stuff.Don't remember the whirlpool but if there was one would have been created by the configuration of the sea bed.

Thanks iamajambo Sounds like a great job. Certainly beats working in a bookies. It was a long time ago I got told about the whirlpool and googling I came across the Corryvreckan whirlpool. We holidayed up there in the early 60s so maybe getting confused.

akabula,I was actually studying for a ph.D at the Marine Biology lab.Went out a couple of times a month on the converted trawler which had a crew of about 7,with a full time cook.Being a student on a grant it was the only time that I got a decent meal.Anyway, each time I went out on the boat I would take an assistant. We would eat our meals in the crew's quarters. Most of them were cheughters.(query the spelling),from the outer isles.Whenever my companion (a junior scientific assistant) was a male the crew would spend our meal times talking about fishing and football.Whenever a girl came along to assist the crew would scatter porn mags around the seating area and spend the time telling dirty jokes.
Bunch of saddos.

I love bridges - all of them. I doubt there's a bridge in the world I don't like.
I particularly like The Humber Bridge and will never forget my "Aaaah!" of amazement when, on a trip to Hull one day, it appeared, like magic, in the vista. A most beautiful sight.
*Stevie Strikes delivered some concrete in the building of The Humber Bridge.
Facts like that can be stored in the memory bank for ever!
