The -ible/-able suffixes are the ones most likely to catch me out as there seems to be no general rule...a bit like the occasional -eous endings (eg. miscellaneous) though they're relatively seldom by comparison.
One word I remember getting wrong in a quiz about a decade ago was minuscule, even though my version (miniscule) is still in the dictionary - as you can guess...we lost in a tiebreak that night

They all looked plausible and acceptable. It was just the correct spelling which looked obviously wrong.

For most of my life I spelled it like this... "definately"
Then, several years ago, one of my email friends said that because I was a good speller (the only thing I'm good at!) she was surprised that I couldn't spell it properly, saying it was spelt "definitely".
So from that point on I've always spelled it like that.
