We might also benefit from just keeping it for when we REALLY need it.

Just like North Sea oil. Promises of cheap fuel and oil self sufficency.

The OP is right, in these desperate times of austerity where we are all needing to tighten our belts - with a massive deficit, rising debt, high unemployment, massive cuts to public services, NHS privatisations, benefit cuts for disabled people, pay freezes, zero-hour contracts, the bedroom tax, slightly reduced defence spending, increased taxes for the richest, a crackdown on tax evasion, and higher corporation tax for the most profitable multinationals - the country needs every resource available.

Will We 'All' benefit?
Or are they already preparing their PR statements to say that because of the cost involved getting this cheap Gas we can't offer it at low costs for the next 100 years - Soz |

Crisp77 very funny like that

It'll all be wasted on spending.
Shale gas will simply mean they'll be able to borrow more. |

Crisp -
![]() Your local council will get paid handsomely for every successful fracking site- that's local money plus there will be cheaper fuel It truly is a no brainer- I just would want this to be extracted over the long term rather than a headlong rush- so we can benefit without any exports etc lets hope we've learned from the north sea experience re this |
|
By:
ok- so lets ban our own fracking because more oil/gas= more global warming;
we'll just import from the usa from next year- frozen gas tankers set up to dock at Milford haven ( west coast wales) that makes great sense One of the protesters- a girl- was ditting down with linked arms- and was laughing and having the time of her life with the excitement of it all- they should be very heavily fined. |

Another cause for the lefties soap dodgers to protest over. Lazy barstewards living of the fat whilst everyone else is grafting and contributing,
Coppers should leave them glued in their own filth for a few days - they wouldn't make the same mistake again |

No good will come of burrowing into the bowels of the earth

some prof was on the tv earlier who it said was an expert in this field. He stated that water would not be contaminated as the drilling was too far down, and there was as much chance of there being an earthquake as there was when there were loads of pits about.
|
|
By:
You can always tell if someone is an expert, they will have details....They use cement around the drill holes,5 percent are cracked on start up..Over 30 years ,50 percent of the cement around the drill holes, will crack, and release 250 of the most carcinogenic chemicals ever seen, into the water table..This will create a death zone that will last for generations.Leakage.About 25% of the gas will leak into the atmosphere. This is 150 times more potent than carbon emissions..Watch Gasland 1 and 2 to see how water supplies are contaminated and the cancers that follow..Protest this monster and grow your fuel instead. If this goes ahead you will pay dearly in health and environmental costs.

Of course it's safe. There's money involved here and they will tell you whatever they want. We were told nuclear fuel was safe in the early days but that didn't stop the Dounreay plant in Scotland leaking radioactive material into the environment for 20 years. A disaster which is now admitted can never be put right.

Jesus wept! It's a wonder the wheel was ever allowed after it was invented. Today there would be someone getting it banned on the grounds of the damage it would do if it ran over someone's foot. |
|
By:
The gas extracted is a fossil fuel so it will be interesting to hear how the government justifies its use when it is signed up to an agreement to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
No doubt Sir Humphrey is working on this at the moment. |

TBF Wheels have been responsible for countless tens of thousands of deaths - probably more
