I used Windows from Windows 3 up to XP. Windows 8 has me totally lost, I agree it is sh1t.
The head honcho at Microsoft wants everything to feel like Windows, but also wants a slice of the mobile and table market... which has resulted in Windows 8.

A good tip to remember is that Windows 8 is voice activated, just call out your instructions and it will promply do what you ask be it browsing, dictation or even complex coding. It does take a while to calibrate itself to your precise voice patterns so it may take some days to see results, so persevere for as long as it takes and resist the urge to operate it manually. t will be worth the effort in the end. The microphones are not very sensitive so speak very, very loudly or shout where possible, the louder you shout, the quicker you will progress.

Everything that has been said is correct. Bought this laptop with Win 8 just 3 weeks ago, big mistake. Drives me nuts with the menu thing coming up every time I swipe my finger across the touch pad, lost count the number of times I've screwed up backing or laying in running when I have to return to my page because of this. As has been said... where the fack are all the files located? Might persevere with this or reload it with XP or Vista. Does that make me a Luddite?

this has me thinking about putting a website up to show how easy it is to use linux.
installinux.com is taken, installinglinux.com is taken, but fackwindows.co.uk is available.
seriously though, for any of you with a spare hour and a spare USB stick... try . http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
you can test drive Linux from a USB stick. A complete operating system on your USB stick is basically what it is.
It'll run slow from it (mainly the start up) but other than that, give it a go. If you like it you can install it alongside Windows.

am struggling through with windows 8,getting better slowly but it truly is horrible, the amount of times i unintentionally bring up the touch screen menu when using the mouse pad makes you wanna throw it in the bin! Am slowly but surely getting the thing set up with tweaks here n there and 3rd party bits of software but i really wish i had bought a new windows 7 laptop tbh.
Quite simply,if you intend on using a laptop or pc,DO NOT buy a piece of equipment with this installed imo.

I saw it on a laptop a while back, and took an instant dislike to it. Vista was another head-wrecker, always asking wanna download a device driver for that.

yep xp was great, vista was crap, 7 was the best of the lot and 8 is the worst of the lot. i bloody hate it. its not even quick, no idea why but its virtually impossible to use sometimes. everything just slows down then freezes constantly. i have to reboot TWICE to get things working properly again. no idea why, but after one reboot its always still slow as hell.
i think it keeps things half open in memory that you havent closed, cos theres no way to close them. like when you go to the start menu and use something...then go back to the desktop. you havent closed it, but its not there anymore so you cant close it.

AP, yes I find this helps, as does banging on the table loudly and repeatedly. Note though that you need to be careful with profanities as some of them are actually default keyboard shortcuts, once while watching a particularly frustrating football game it printed the entire contents of a folder called "for Ken Hunt".
