Can any guitarists out there confirm the chords to Bizarre Love Triangle? I've always strummed it:
C Every time that Am I think of you I D feel shot through with a G bolt of blue
But looking up the various versions on the net I see C D Bm C and F G Em Am, neither of which sound right to me.
I'm so hard of hearing now that it wouldn't surprise me to discover that what I've been strumming the last decade and a half sounds nothing like the song at all.
Any ideas?

Haven't really listened to them for some years and it was probably something like 'Your Silent Face', when I was cool and trendy.
But about 3 or 4 days ago listened to a remastered version of 'Blue Monday' on some decent equipment and was blown away.
So will be boring and say it's 'Blue Monday'

not boring Popyydog. blue monday was a triumph, as was Confusion. I didn't pick them because I thought both tunes were inspired by something else rather than them being a band. Also neither tune had a real vocal whereas Bizzare Love Triangle really fits Bernards vocals.

I love the first 30 secs of Age Of Consent, particularly when Waynesworld 2 uses it instead of Mrs Robinson.
Run, the track which precedes Mr Disco at the start of side 2 of the Ibiza album Technique is the one I've been listening to recently. There's something about the peculiar video that the photographer Robert Frank made for it which strikes a chord:

Temptation's the one I always come back to though.

seen them live twice,1986 and last year. they are poor, because the singer can't sing. and they just don't put enough effort into the front end bit of rehearsal and sound checking for a live show, in my opinion. weird seeing them last year with Bernard dad dancing, in 86 I don't think he even looked at the audience during the show.

In a slightly odd, but true, story, a mate of mine hired Peter Hook to play at his clubnight in London once. Quite how it came about, I'm not sure, but he couldn't mix for toffee apparently, which is not entirely surprising for a bassist. Well maybe it is. I suppose a bassist should be au fait with that sort of stuff. Strong on track choice though apparently. Wish I'd gone.

I used to like 'Ceremony' but I find ALL New Order stuff well dated...I think it's that hackneyed bassline that pisses me off nowadays - I was a fan 30 years ago but after about five years (like Joy Division) their songs became tedious & repetitive to me

I've just tried and to me the C D Bm C version sounds correct, remember Capo on 6th fret though!

Can never get over the presence of that 'comedian' Allen in the video, Ken.
Ta, Alpha. I've tried C D G C with open chords and that works fine for my ears. Thanks again.
Mind you, C Am D G is still a decent tune. Anyone who fancies cracking the hit parade with it is welcome for the usual share of the royalties. (Hell, if John Denver could take New Order to court and get a writing credit and 25% of the royalties for 'Run', then anything's possible.)

Always liked the guitar stuff they did as opposed to the early synth stuff myself

I love Regret. I like Blue Monday, and it changed music and is certainly a better song musically, but Regret makes my spine go a bit funny every time I hear it, which Blue Monday doesn't. So, favourite - Regret, best - Blue Monday.

Closely followed by The Perfect Kiss,Bizarre Love Triangle,Subculture and Your Silent Face.
I still know Your Silent Face as 'Kwi'. When I bought the cassette version of Power Corruption and Lies in 1983,that is what it was listed as on the track listing.

Thanks for that, Baby J. Fmaj7 G Em7 Fmaj7 is basically the C D Bm C sequence moved up "a string" (or 5 semi-tones technically). But as it's open strings, it's much clearer on the guitar. Great stuff.
So many of New Order's "electronic" songs sound great strummed on an acoustic, you have to guess that's how they were composed. Just by fiddling around with the D and G shapes on the top 3 or 4 strings you can play Temptation with all the drive and melody of the original.

OMG...Blue Monday sucks...I think I hate it bcos it's been done to death now...I can't vote for just one...Vicious Streak, Crystal, Ruined In A Day. That is all.

History Maker, I can confirm Hooky is stealing a living as a DJ. With todays technology anyone with a faint knowledge of how music works, and the ability to count to 8, can mix. So he is just lazy really, track choice is OK but it's just classic so called Hacienda tunes one after another.

Screamin I think on the record it's just choppy chords of C D Bm C a mix of barre chords and open ones. There was a program on Sky arts called Songbook where they spoke to bands about how they'd written the songs etc and did acoustic versions. There's bound to be a full version of it on youtube if you search. Here's the acoustic version they did of Bizarre Long Triangle, well worth a listen

I was listening to New Order just last night. Temptation (Extended version) for me is very special. The video is one of my fav's too. I actually think its a work of art! A little fact about that video is that the girl in it, is a young Victoria Bergsman, former lead singer of the very likable The Concretes and now Taken By Trees.

That video is so frustrating - it's uncanny how the camera operator or the microphone stand keeps concealing the left hand of the chap in the centre playing rhythm guitar. As far as I can see he's playing D E Am D, but there's no guarantee I'm right, and he might be playing an odd tuning anyway.
That sequence doesn't sound too bad to me, but I'm so bloody deaf these days, I can barely hear the top two strings any more, so for all know I might be driving the neighbours mad with something tuneless and grating (or "jazz", as I believe it's termed).
